Location: Chennai.


Roles & Responsibility:

1.Experience: At least twenty yearsexperience in agriculture research and worked with reputed company/ research institute and have the managerial skills to execute thecommercial research. Ph.D. in breeding/ agronomy / entomology ismost preferable.

2. Managementskills: Managerial capability to handle multipledisciplined teams consist of varietal development crop productionCrop protection analytical and technical staff in sugarcaneresearch and focus on research project to deliver products& services to the business requirements. Able to align withcane operation & extension team to deliver the new productsand services to the farmers.

3.Research skills: Head R&D stayupdated on the latest research and technologies in sugarcane arena.Rich experience in field trials and studies to improve cropmanagement practices and test innovative tools or techniques tolead and guide the team. Data analytical skill to arrive themeaning full decision from various trials.

4.Net working: Need to connect withnational & international research institutes collaboratewith various agencies to lead new research projects field trialsfor the business requirements.

5.Breeding: Experience in plant breedingdevelop strategies to develop varieties to suit current requirementof the industry. Need to guide the team on various breeding methodsin sugarcane support the commercializing new varieties.

6. Crop nutrition: Soundknowledge on soil analytics to evaluate nutrient levels and developtailored fertilizer recommendations for various zones. Providerecommendations on nutrient requirements and application methods toensure optimal nutrient uptake by the crop.

7.Irrigation and water management: Needsto advise on micro irrigation practices and develop watermanagement plans for sugarcane cultivation.

8.Training and education : Need toorganize training sessions and workshops to educate farmers andcane field staff on good agricultural practices new technologiesand advancements in sugarcane farming. Also provide guidance oncrop management techniques and help troubleshoot any issues facedby farmers.

9. Crop planning andmanagement: Experience to develop and implement thecrop plan along with cane operation considering factors like soiltype nutrients water availability etc. He should ensure thesustainable and efficient use of resources like fertilizer waterand agrochemicals.

10. Fieldassessments and monitoring: Organize fields surveyto assess crop health growth and yield potential. Analyse soilfertility and nutrient levels to provide recommendations forfertilizer application.

Overall: Head R&Dplay a pivotal role in optimizing sugarcane production by providingfarmers with new varieties technical expertise ensuring sustainablecrop management practices and facilitating the adoption ofinnovations in thefield.
