JOB DETAILS
1) Developing new environmental sample collection, processing,and testing methods for various activities, including outbreak investigations and other investigations of suspected environmental contamination.
2) Processing environmental samples to include water, wastewater, soil, sediment, biosolids, and filter samples
3) Testing parameters include viral, bacterial, and parasitic pathogens, some toxins (in conjunction with CDC toxin labs), microbial indicators of fecal contamination, and water quality parameters (e.g., pH, turbidity).
4) Conducting laboratory procedures and processes related to diagnosis of waterborne and environmentally acquired disease, detection of causative agents of disease, molecular subtyping of microbes, and pathogen discovery including systematic classification of parasitic pathogens
5) Developing and testing the usage of electronic laboratory subtyping surveillance systems to improve laboratory surveillance.
6) Developing and coordinating national and international training courses; building laboratory and epidemiologic capacity in other countries.
7) Maintaining safe work environment and necessary inventory of supplies to maintain laboratory readiness for research and outbreak investigations.
8) Ensuring calibration of all necessary laboratory instruments and logs to ensure compliance with CDC's Laboratory Quality Management Systems (QMS)
