Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced PLC Engineer with approximately 3 years of hands-on experience in designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions for commercial and industrial Building Management Systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC platforms.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Programming : Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC logic (Ladder, FBD; SCL/STL as needed) for BMS sequences of operation HMI/SCADA Development : Configure and integrate HMI/SCADA screens, alarms, data logging, and user security Commissioning : Commission BMS field devices including sensors, actuators, VFDs (PowerFlex, Danfoss), motor starters, valves, and dampers System Integration : Integrate third-party systems using BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET/PROFIBUS, and OPC UA protocols Documentation : Create control narratives, I/O lists, point schedules, and test/commissioning plans; maintain as-built documentation Testing & Troubleshooting : Perform site FAT/SAT, startup, and functional performance testing; diagnose controls, electrical, and networking issues Project Coordination : Interface with mechanical/electrical contractors, TAB, and commissioning agents; support RFIs and change orders Compliance : Implement safety practices (UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, local codes) and company QA/QC standards Optimization : Trend/analyze system data to optimize energy usage and comfort; implement sequence tuning and PID loop optimization Support & Training : Provide end-user training and post-commissioning support; participate in on-call rotation as neededRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience ~3 years hands-on PLC programming and commissioning experience with: Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Studio 5000) and/or Siemens (S7-1200/1500, TIA Portal) Experience with BMS/controls for HVAC equipment (AHUs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers) Proficiency with HMI/SCADA development (FactoryTalk View or WinCC) Solid understanding of BACnet and Modbus mapping, device discovery, and interoperability Ability to read/mark up P&IDs, electrical schematics, and mechanical plans Strong troubleshooting and documentation skillsPreferred QualificationsFamiliarity with Niagara/Tridium, Ignition, or other SCADA platforms Experience with energy metering, demand response, or analytics platforms VFD parameterization, harmonics mitigation, and EMC best practices Scripting (Structured Text), version control (Git), and basic Python OSHA-10/30, LEED awareness, or commissioning certificationsTools & TechnologiesPLC Platforms : AB ControlLogix/CompactLogix; Siemens S7-1200/1500 Software : Studio 5000/RSLogix, TIA Portal/Step 7, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, AutoCAD/EPLAN Protocols : BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET/PROFIBUS, OPC UA Diagnostic Tools : Wireshark, Advanced IP Scanner, multimeter, loop calibrator, scopeSuccess MetricsOn-time commissioning and handover with zero safety incidents High point-to-point completion and defect closure rates Reduction in call-backs through quality workmanship Documented energy/comfort improvements from sequence tuning Up-to-date as-builts and effective knowledge transfer to operations
