As a platform engineering in the Asynchronous Messaging Services team (AMS) you'll be part of the larger Cloud Engineering group who’s responsible for building a truly global, self-service cloud platform (PaaS) to enable Global Tech’s growing number of engineering teams to build, deploy, run and operate their services in a fully autonomous fashion.
Roles & Responsibilities:
As the engineering managers for the Asynchronous Messaging Services team (AMS) you'll be part of the larger Cloud Engineering group who’s responsible for building a truly global, self-service cloud platform (PaaS) to enable Global Tech’s growing number of engineering teams to build, deploy, run and operate their services in a fully autonomous fashion. Your role will focus on leading the development efforts of the Kafka-as-a-Service platform on top of Confluent Cloud. You will help set the teams identify and how the teams work in the larger organization. You’ll emphasize modern, rigorous software development practices that emphasize testability, repeatability, and self-service automation. You will help drive technical decision-making, particularly regarding the architectural direction of the global Kafka platform. Your team focuses on providing a simple process for communicating asynchronous between services and provide a set of tools for application teams to leverage. You bring passion and enthusiasm to your engineering team. You have a track record of leading top performing teams. You thrive under minimal supervision with the ability to self-motivate and self-organize within the organizational structure. You have experience managing a team that runs production infrastructure that supports multiple systems in a scalable, stable, and performant manner. You measure everything, make decisions based on data, are consumer-obsessed, and take immense pride in your work. You have mastered the ability to delegate – at both the task and project level – to appropriate team members and are able to ensure that the right results are achieved even without your constant oversight. You understand a broad range of computer science concepts and know how, when, and when not to use them. Bachelor’s degree with total 14 – 16 years of experience in software development including 2+ year of team management experience. at least 5 years of hands-on experience with at minimum two messaging systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, etc Hands-on experience with designing and maintaining backend service Hands-on experience with at least one IaC tool (e.g. CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation) Hands-on experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, or other) Experience with the development and operation of high throughput systems supporting hundreds of developers or more. Experience as a software developer using at least one of (Swift, Kotlin/Java, Javascript or Golang preferred) and has a good understanding of how software applications are built. Hands-on experience with automating development workflow pipelines (CI/CD) Operational experience (i.e. on-call rotation, incident response) Ability to collaborate effectively with remote peers across disparate geographies and time zones. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular emphasis on technical documentation (including diagramming) Able to administer a team’s agile process (creating exemplary tickets in Jira, sprint planning, etc)What We Offer:
