The Role

As the Lead Machine Learning Engineer, you will be at the forefront of our AI innovation. This role is perfect for someone who wants to shape the technical direction of a startup and directly contribute to building intelligent applications. You will lead efforts to design, build, and optimize AI-driven systems with a strong focus on LLMs, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and real-world AI agents.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role with the opportunity to scale and mentor a team as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

- AI System Architecture:- Design and implement end-to-end AI pipelines integrating LLMs for real-world applications.- Build scalable and efficient RAG systems combining LLMs with vector search and structured databases.- Lead the development of AI agents that make decision-making for customers seamless and powerful.- Model Development:- Fine-tune and optimize LLMs (GPT, Claude, Llama) for specialized use cases in construction and building materials.- Research and deploy state-of-the-art models for context-aware, multi-turn conversations.- Develop robust embeddings and retrieval mechanisms for efficient knowledge integration.- Product Integration:- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into customer-facing products.- Deliver a pro-customer AI experience, making our assistant the ultimate co-pilot for contractors and builders.- Scalability & Optimization:- Ensure models and systems are cost-effective, fast, and scalable for production-level use.- Optimize token usage, inference latency, and data retrieval mechanisms.- Leadership & Mentorship:- Be the technical thought leader for all things AI and machine learning.- Mentor junior engineers and help build a high-performing AI team.

What We’re Looking For

- Technical Expertise:- 5+ years of experience in machine learning and AI engineering, with a strong focus on LLMs and NLP.- Proven track record in building and deploying AI systems at scale, ideally involving RAG pipelines.- Deep understanding of modern LLM frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face, etc.) and vector databases (FAISS, Weaviate, Chroma).- Hands-On Skills:- Expertise in Python, ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), and deployment tools (Docker, Kubernetes).- Strong experience with APIs, FastAPI, or Flask for building scalable backends.- Startup Mindset:- Thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and is a builder at heart.- Strong first-principles thinker, capable of finding innovative solutions to complex problems.- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and taking ownership of the end-to-end AI pipeline.- Communication & Collaboration:- Excellent communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.- Works well across cross-functional teams to deliver seamless integrations.
