The HMC/VMC Setter will be responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC) and Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) to produce high-precision components as per engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires proficiency in CNC programming, tool selection, fixture setup, and process optimization to ensure efficient production and consistent quality.


Roles and Responsibilities:


Machine Setup and Programming:
  • Interpret and analyze engineering drawings, 3D models, and process sheets to understand machining requirements.
  • Develop and modify CNC programs using G-code, M-code, or CAM software as required.
  • Set up tools, fixtures, and machine parameters for HMC and VMC machines.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools and ensure proper tool calibration.


Production Operations:
  • Load raw materials and start the machining process, monitoring the operation to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Perform first-off inspections and make necessary adjustments to programs or setups.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any machining issues or deviations from specifications.
  • Ensure machines are operating at optimal speeds and feeds for efficiency and quality.


Quality Control:
  • Conduct in-process inspections using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
  • Identify and address dimensional errors and quality issues, making necessary corrections.


Process Improvement:
  • Optimize programs, tool paths, and setups to reduce cycle times and increase productivity.
  • Propose and implement improvements in machining processes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.


Maintenance and Safety:
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on machines to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
  • Report any machine malfunctions or breakdowns to the maintenance team promptly.


Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of machine setups, tool usage, and production runs.
  • Document and update CNC programs for future reference.


Qualifications:


Education and Experience:
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical qualification.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an HMC/VMC setter and programmer.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC programming using software like Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks) is an advantage.


Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, and materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Proficient in operating precision measuring instruments.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Accuracy of setup and programming.
  • Adherence to production schedules and cycle times.
  • Reduction in machining errors and scrap rates.
  • Maintenance of machine uptime and reliability.
