Engineering Manager Why we are hiring for this role :


We are looking for a new Engineering Manager to join and lead a team of highly effective Software Engineering.

The Engineering Management role is a full time management role and you will be working closely with a portfolio of 8 - 10 Engineers typically across 1-2 teams. You will be working closely with other engineering leadership groups as well with the primary directive of building a team that can build a product at scale. You will meet with your team often in 1-2-1 style meetings where you will have the opportunity to mentor and coach. You will be responsible for monitoring and enhancing individual and team performance.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it :


Technical Expectations :

  • Work alongside the team and be a part of the full software development life cycle.
  • Building features for our 4 user groups, Merchants, Customers, Developers, and Internal operation teams.
  • Working on business projects, internal tech projects, changes to various systems, and navigating unplanned work.
  • Work alongside the team to create quality code through peer reviews, maintaining internal and external documentation, and identifying and addressing technical debt.
  • Help the team build up healthy development habits like TDD, Refactoring, being Agile, finding the right tool/technology for the job.
  • Instill Peach engineering principles in other engineers
  • Proactively improves modules, services, systems, and codebases they encounter, 'this doesn't make sense, I'm going to do something about it.
  • Breaks down delivery and knowledge silos in their team.
Leadership Expectations :
  • Improve documentation that is incorrect
  • Proactively raises issues they spot in retrospectives
  • Clear blockers for junior team members; provides context/guidance, or knows how to escalate
  • Drive changes to engineering practices with well-reasoned arguments and a 'strong opinion, weakly held' mentality
  • Contribute to scaling engineering hiring (e.g. leads calls, does onsite interviews)
  • Help facilitate agile/scrum rituals and running guild sessions for the team.
  • Contribute to the Review process by assisting your direct reports with personal KPIs and highlighting work done that contributes to the overarching company goals, giving them feedback throughout the year, and helping them navigate self-improvement programs.

What do the first 3-6 months look like in this role :

  • Enhancing our progression framework for various roles within Peach Engineering
  • Actively working on the recruitment process, refining existing sessions, and assisting in the vetting process.
  • Creating platforms for innovation, assisting with the running of hackathons, concept pitches, guilds, and innovation incentives.
  • We have the end-year review, assisting engineers with framing their achievements and growth for the year.
