CAD Standards and Governance:
Define, document, and enforce comprehensive CAD standards and best practices for 3D model creation, assembly structure, file naming conventions, layering, and metadata.
Establish and continuously refine the CAD data release workflow, ensuring traceability, version control, and proper access management.
Develop and implement guidelines for design reuse, modularity, and component standardization.

Master Assembly & Structure Creation:
Lead the creation and maintenance of the program's master assembly structure, serving as the authoritative source for the overall product definition.
Ensure the master assembly accurately reflects the physical product architecture and supports efficient collaboration across engineering disciplines.
Manage and optimize the hierarchy and interdependencies within complex CAD assemblies.

Interface Control Management:
Establish and govern critical interface controls between components, subsystems, and modules within the CAD environment.
Develop and implement mechanisms to ensure design compatibility and prevent clashes or misalignments across different design teams.
Facilitate interface reviews and ensure agreement on shared boundaries and connection points.

CAD Data Quality Assurance & Monitoring:
Design, implement, and maintain advanced data quality dashboards and automated checks to proactively identify CAD data issues.
Continuously monitor for common data integrity problems such as broken links, missing references, outdated component revisions, and non-compliance with established standards.
Develop and deploy tools or scripts to detect and report on weight and space violations, ensuring designs adhere to packaging and performance targets.
Collaborate with CAD users to resolve identified data quality issues efficiently and prevent recurrence.

Process Optimization & Tooling:
Evaluate and recommend CAD software configurations, plugins, and complementary tools to enhance design efficiency and data quality.
Identify opportunities for automation within the CAD workflow to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
Collaborate with IT and PLM teams to ensure seamless integration between CAD systems and product lifecycle management (PLM) platforms.

Training & Mentorship:
Provide expert guidance, training, and mentorship to CAD designers and engineers on established standards, best practices, and advanced CAD techniques.
Champion a culture of CAD data quality and virtual build robustness within the engineering organization.

Job Description

The CAD Architect sets the ground rules for 3D data, including assembly strategy, file naming, layer standards, and release workflow. They create the master assembly, govern interface control, and supervise data quality dashboards that detect broken links, outdated revisions, and weight/space violations. Robustness of the virtual build and reduction in late-stage CAD rework are prime success indicators.
