Job Description R&D Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented R&D Engineer to join our Research & Development team. The role involves driving new product development, improving existing formulations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and supporting cost-reduction initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field, with hands-on experience in lab-scale testing, plant trials, and customer-focused product improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead New Product Development (NPD) projects from concept to commercialization, including formulation design, testing, and scaling up.
  • Research emerging technologies, raw materials, and processes to create innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with procurement to identify and qualify suppliers for new and existing raw materials.
  • Conduct lab-scale experiments, analyze test data, and optimize formulations to meet performance, safety, and cost requirements.
  • Manage plant trials (scale-up processes) and finalize formulations for production.
  • Execute cost-reduction projects by identifying alternative materials, ensuring compatibility, regulatory compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and analyze Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), assess raw material toxicity, and ensure compliance with EU REACH, GADSL, and other regulatory norms.
  • Prepare and maintain International Material Data System (IMDS) reports for customer communication.
  • Address customer complaints by investigating issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, procurement, and quality teams to support product performance and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience or internships in petrochemicals, polymers, or manufacturing industries is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of formulation development, process optimization, and compliance regulations.
  • Hands-on experience with lab-scale testing, data management, and plant trial supervision.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as EU REACH, GADSL, and IMDS reporting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
