We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and evolution of our observability platform. In this role, you will drive the strategic direction of observability across the organization, ensuring that our systems are instrumented for comprehensive monitoring, logging, and tracing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish best practices, select and integrate appropriate tools, and empower engineers to gain deep insights into system behavior, enabling proactive issue detection and resolution.

Responsibilities:

Observability Strategy:Define and implement a comprehensive observability strategy that aligns with the organization's goals and technical landscape.Establish clear objectives, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of observability initiatives.Evangelize the importance of observability and promote a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.Platform Architecture:Design and architect a scalable and resilient observability platform that can handle large volumes of data from diverse sources.Select and integrate best-in-class observability tools and technologies for metrics collection, log aggregation, distributed tracing, and anomaly detection.Ensure seamless integration of the observability platform with existing monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.Instrumentation and Standards:Establish guidelines and standards for instrumenting applications and infrastructure to collect meaningful metrics, logs, and traces.Collaborate with development teams to ensure consistent and comprehensive instrumentation across all systems.Develop and maintain libraries, frameworks, and tools to simplify instrumentation and reduce developer friction.Data Analysis and Visualization:Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to extract insights from observability data.Design and build custom dashboards and visualizations that provide actionable information to engineers and stakeholders.Leverage machine learning and anomaly detection algorithms to proactively identify potential issues and predict future behavior.Collaboration and Enablement:Partner with development teams to understand their observability needs and provide guidance on best practices.Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate engineers on observability concepts, tools, and techniques.Foster a collaborative environment where teams share knowledge and expertise on observability.

Experience:8+ years of experience in software engineering or DevOps roles with a focus on observability.Proven track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale observability platforms.Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud infrastructure.Expertise in observability tools and technologies such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb and similar.Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Go, Java) and scripting.

Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for data-driven decision-making.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical concepts.Ability to work independently and collaboratively, leading and mentoring others in observability best practices.Passion for continuous learning and staying ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving field of observability.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with machine learning and statistical analysis for anomaly detection and predictive modeling.Contributions to open-source observability projects.Certifications in relevant cloud technologies (GCP, AWS).
