Principal Software Engineer- Backend, Observability

Splunk is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Principal software engineer to join our Splunk Observability team who will work on systems that empower our customers to quickly detect and resolve their infrastructure and application issues.You will work within a multi-functional team of designers, product managers, and quality engineers in a fast-paced environment to implement & design large-scale distributed systems, streaming data pipelines, API design, and advanced algorithms that power the Splunk products. Our engineering teams are small and highly impactful. You will learn from the best and help us architect and build applications of the future. You will also get many opportunities to share and talk about your work through channels like conferences, meetups, and blogs.Responsibilities
Collaborate with product owners and designers to iterate on the design and implementation of our systems.Identify product architecture overlaps across multiple Areas and navigate dependenciesDeliver on complex, ambiguous problems independently & gain cross-functional alignment across areas.Provide technical leadership within their areaMentor Senior engineers and technical leaders at Splunk.Understand the business direction and is able to evangelize innovative ideas and obtain alignment with cross functional teams.
Requirements
Several years of experience building large-scale backend systems.Experience driving and collaborating on technical designs for backend systems with architects and peer engineers.Proficiency in Java 8+ and/or Go, familiar with the development environments.Proficiency in Kubernetes, RPC frameworks such as thrift, gRPC, cloud native development on AWS/GCPLeadership and mentoring skills and the ability to work with engineers and non-engineers of various skill levels.Experience with DevOps practices and comfortability operating your own systems.The ability to adapt quickly and to solve problems through uncertainty.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.BS EE or CS degree, or equivalent training or work experience12+ years related experience (or Masters and 8+ years related experience or PhD and 5+ years experience)
