Job Purpose
Lead QA Efforts : Oversee and guide the quality assurance team to ensure game quality and playability.
Manage QA Team : Supervise and mentor a team of QA testers, ensuring effective performance and development.
Develop Test Plans : Create and implement comprehensive test plans and strategies tailored to the game's needs.
Collaborate with Stakeholders : Work closely with developers, designers, and other team members to identify, document, and resolve issues.
Optimize Testing Processes : Utilize expertise in testing methodologies and tools to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.
Enhance Test Coverage : Ensure thorough testing of all game aspects to detect and address bugs and glitches.
Deliver High-Quality Product : Strive to deliver a polished, bug-free, and engaging game experience to players.
Maintain Documentation : Keep detailed records of testing processes, results, and issues for future reference and continuous improvement.
Coordinate Release Testing : Ensure final release testing is thorough and meets quality standards before launch.
Scope of Role
Conduct QA and ensure quality whilst working on Video gaming titles on various (PC, Console, Mobile/Handheld) platforms. Build test plans, design test cases and strategies. Guide, coach and mentor the team of QA testers.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
Team Leadership and Management:
Supervise, mentor, and manage the QA testing team.
Assign tasks and ensure the effective performance of team members.
Provide training and support to enhance team capabilities.
Test Planning and Execution:
Develop comprehensive test plans and strategies.
Oversee the execution of test cases, scripts, and scenarios.
Ensure thorough testing across various platforms and devices.
Bug Identification and Management:
Identify, document, and prioritize bugs and issues.
Use bug tracking tools to manage reported issues.
Collaborate with developers to reproduce and resolve bugs.
Quality Assurance Processes:
Establish and maintain QA processes, standards, and best practices.
Continuously improve QA methodologies and workflows.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Performance and Usability Testing:
Conduct performance testing to assess game stability and resource usage.
Evaluate the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) for accessibility.
Provide feedback and recommendations to improve the player experience.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and project managers.
Participate in meetings and provide updates on QA progress and issues.
Facilitate effective communication between QA and other departments.
Release Management:
Ensure final release testing is thorough and meets quality standards.
Coordinate with the release management team to support smooth launches.
Verify that all critical issues are resolved before release.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed documentation of testing processes, results, and issues
Generate and present QA reports to stakeholders.
Keep records for continuous improvement and future reference.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Act as the primary point of contact for QA-related matters.
Engage with external partners to meet QA requirements.
Ensure stakeholder expectations are met regarding game quality and release timelines.
Tool and Technology Management:
Select, implement, and manage QA tools and technologies
Ensure the QA team is proficient with the tools used for testing.
Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in QA tools and methodologies.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Design, or a related field. A higher degree can be advantageous but is often not mandatory.
Professional Experience:
Extensive QA Experience : Several years (typically 3 -7+) of experience in quality assurance, specifically in game testing.
Leadership Experience : Proven experience in a leadership or managerial role, ideally within a QA team.
Game Development Understanding : Solid understanding of game development processes, cycles, and common challenges.
Technical Skills:
Testing Tools Proficiency : Strong knowledge of QA tools and bug tracking systems (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, Bugzilla).
Programming/Scripting: Familiarity with programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#, JavaScript) can be beneficial.
Automation Testing: Experience with automation testing tools and frameworks preferred.
Platform Knowledge : Experience testing across multiple platforms (PC, console, mobile).
Soft Skills:
Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective interaction with team members and stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify, diagnose, and resolve issues effectively.
Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure thorough testing and accurate documentation.
