Liaises with stakeholders, implements projects and represents the organization at external events, allocates project work, evaluates work, and creates career development programs for the team.Job Responsibilities:Manage a team of 5-10 controls engineers responsible for designing & maintaining controls across the Carrier portfolio, inclusive of performance management, compensation planning, and talent developmentDevelop & execute staffing plans to ensure consistent delivery against project plansSupport project management with the definition of suitable plans for development, testing, and execution of technical reviews.Provide technical oversight to work performed, ensuring appropriate processes & methods are applied, in accordance with a model-based design (MBD) philosophyMentor engineers in technical analysis, project risk management, stakeholder management, and communication skillsLead strategic initiatives for the controls COE to improve organizational quality and efficiency through technology advancement and process improvementDefine organizational best-practices and chair design reviews to ensure minimum standards are met throughout organizationWillingness to contribute directly to development activities as a truly technical engineering leaderTeam responsibilities:Perform dynamic analysis of non-linear systems in development of control algorithms including system identification, controllability, robustness, stability, and optimizationWork with system engineers to develop requirements, and subsequently ensure controls requirements are satisfied and verifiedDrive decisions on control architecture solutions including allocation of controls functions both within and across physical modules (e.g. PLC, UI modules, connectivity/IoT modules)Recommend updates to equipment design efforts based on control objectives versus system performance capabilitySupport the development and calibration of physics-based plant modelsDevelop & execute unit-tests & integration tests for control systemPerform hands-on testing in psychrometric laboratory and analyze results to direct refinements to plant model fidelity and control algorithmsApply best-in-class strategies to push testing further upstream in the development lifecycle (MIL/SIL/HIL)Basic Qualifications:​M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Control Systems, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with 15+ years of controls system experiencePreferred Qualifications:Proficient knowledge of controls engineering foundations, including feedback control, linear/nonlinear control, multivariable control, system identification, and optimizationProficient in the use of Matlab-based toolsets to design, implement, and test embedded controls algorithmsProven ability to work independently with limited supervisionProven ability to lead small cross-disciplinary teams of engineers to deliver large scope projectsExcellent communication skills and a proven track record of delivering results through effective project management and teamworkAbility to work hands-on in psychrometric laboratory environment to collect and analyze dataExperience with industrial control applicationsFamiliar with PLC or AUTOSAR styled embedded architectureExperience with vapor-compression cycles, including heat exchangers and turbomachinery compression technologiesExpertise in heat transfer, two-phase flow, and thermodynamic cycle analytical skillsExperience with software development lifecycle best practices, including version control, change management, release managementExperience in requirements management and system integration, specifically test strategies across model-in-the-loop (MIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) domainsStrong technical writing skills with ability to produce clear, concise documentationExperience in developing and calibrating physics-based modelsFamiliar with system optimization techniques and their application to modeling and system designKnowledge of acausal modeling languages such as ModelicaBenefits:We are committed to offering competitive benefits programs for all of our employees, and enhancing our programs when necessary.Have peace of mind and body with our health insuranceMake yourself a priority with flexible schedules and leave PolicyDrive forward your career through professional development opportunities Achieve your personal goals with our Employee Assistance Program.Our commitment to you Our greatest assets are the expertise, creativity and passion of our employees.
