Role Summary
As a UX Designer, you combine user research and interaction design to create interfaces that are both functional and engaging. Your role involves empathetic collaboration, ensuring that designs meet high standards of usability and accessibility. You will work under the mentorship of a Senior Designers who will help you navigate complex design challenges and enhance your skill set.
As a Visual Designer, you bring creative ability, taste, and technical skills together. Going way beyond "making things pretty," you craft visually appealing and meaningful elements that resonate with users. Your focus is on working with the intricacies of visual design, from understanding component systems, to mastering layout techniques. Enthusiasm to constantly push visual experimentation and take direction from Senior Designers on projects to achieve high-impact results is central at this level.
Project Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams that include design researchers, UX designers, visual designers, developers, and product or project managers.
- Develop visual design concepts for digital user experiences that intelligently leverage the elements of design (type, color, layout, composition, imagery) that combined work to create a memorable and high-quality user experience.
- Refine design concepts, ensuring visual design aligns with user expectations, project objectives, and client's brand.
- Create, maintain and organize functional component systems for user interfaces.
- Present work to clients through the lens of a user-centered narrative, guiding clients to understand how design decisions impact the intended user experience.
Design studio responsibilities
- Participate in studio educational knowledge-share activities, and build your communication skills, and contributing as a member of the design studio community.
- Take on assignments for internal projects such as visual design for project pitches.
Craft-specific technical skills
- Learning and growing your proficiency with:
- User-centered Design: Have a basic grasp the concept of user-centered design. Understand that the user's needs and preferences should be the primary focus when creating interfaces.
- Heuristic Principles: Have been exposed to and are becoming familiar with heuristic principles, which are a set of guidelines for evaluating and improving interface designs. Have begun to apply these principles to identify usability issues.
- Interaction Design: Have explored interaction design and have an understand of basic user interface patterns.
- Design Systems: Understanding of the concept of design systems, its importance to design, and have begun to apply basic design rules and industry standards to your work. You are learning what is considered best practices and are staying up-to-date with current design trends.
- Usability Knowledge: Have a foundational understanding of usability concepts. And can articulate why usability is essential for creating effective designs and how to apply standards to designs.
- Responsive Design: Have been exposed to the challenges and differences in designing for multiple platforms, and the challenges of adapting designs for various devices.
- Accessibility Standards: Can demonstrate an early understand of the importance of accessibility in design. Including basic principles of making interfaces usable for people with disabilities and require guidance and validation from senior design team members to ensure standards are being met.
- Prototyping & Wire-Framing: Have some experience prototyping and wire-framing, including how to create basic mockups and prototypes to visualize and test design ideas.
