Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the local execution of global R&D initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and innovation roadmaps.
  • Provide strategic oversight and decision-making support for local R&D programs, ensuring technical excellence and relevance to industry needs.
  • Leverage 10–15 years of experience in fundamental research to guide scientific direction and assess the viability of new technologies.
  • Act as a key technical authority, making informed judgement calls on project feasibility, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with global R&D leaders, ensuring seamless integration of local research activities into the broader technology strategy.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between material scientists, electrochemists, cell engineers, and manufacturing teams to accelerate technology development.
  • Ensure the timely execution of R&D projects, balancing scientific innovation with industrial applicability.
  • Drive knowledge transfer between global and local teams, ensuring best practices and key learnings are effectively disseminated.
  • Support engagement with external partners, research institutions, and industry stakeholders to strengthen the company's innovation ecosystem
  • Mentor and develop R&D teams, cultivating a high-performance culture in scientific research and technology development

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 10–15 years of experience in fundamental research, with deep expertise in Li-ion battery technology, electrochemistry, or advanced materials.
  • Strong technical acumen, with the ability to assess complex R&D challenges and make sound judgement calls.
  • Proven ability to bridge global strategy with local execution, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
  • Experience in technology development, scaling innovations from fundamental research to industrial application.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities, with a track record of driving high-impact R&D programs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across global teams, fostering alignment and integration of research efforts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, ensuring clarity in scientific and strategic discussions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory trends, intellectual property considerations, and industry best practices in battery innovation.

Role Specific Qualifications/Certifications

  • This is a senior, non-executive role that plays a pivotal part in translating global R&D vision into impactful local execution, ensuring scientific excellence and technological progress in line with the company's innovation strategy. It is ideal for a candidate with 10-15 years of experience in battery research, a university degree in a relevant field and proven track record of leadership and team management. The candidate is also expected to be familiar with regulatory trends, IP and industrial best practices.
