Purpose of RoleThe production of electrical building services designs predominantly for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings, working individually or as part of a team. Prepare, coordinate, and monitor a project, from the initial conception to the schedule and final completion. Supervise and mentor Assistant Enginners/ Engineers in day to day activities.

ResponsibilitiesDesign of low voltage reticulation and distribution systems (230/400Volt) including UPS sources;Operation of AMTECH / Electrical OM software to produce design for low voltage systems including selection of cable types, protective devices and self-checking and presentation of results;Design of general lighting systems;Design of emergency lighting systems;Good working knowledge of different lighting types and sources (including LED types);Operation of industry standard lighting design software for the design of general and emergency lighting systems;Design of cable management systems (CMS) including trunking, tray, and conduits and the preparation of CMS sizing calculations and self-checking and presentation of results;Presentation of design onto schematic and 2D layout drawings;Use of Bentley Microstation and AECOsim to model in 3D MEP services including but not limited to Cable Management Systems, Pipework, Ductwork etc in 3D, including generating 2D sections from 3D models for incorporation into drawings;Understanding of BIM and working within a Common Data Environment, preferably Bentley projectwise;Supervise and verify the work performed by the designers/ modeller to meet the requirements of the project.Interpretation of client specification requirements written in English in the development of designs;Operation of Microsoft Office package, including Outlook, Word, Excel and powerpoint.Guide Assistant Engineers/ Engineers in day to day work for the development of electrical designs.

Mandatory SkillsBachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.Qualifications meeting the requirements for Chartership with a UK Engineering Institution.Qualifications in the requirements of BS standards etc.CMS Design, Load calculations, Cable sizing, transformer sizing, LV Design, Single Line drawings, etcMulti Disciplinary design coordination.Extensive experience of working within a rail station environment and good working knowledge of Network Rail, TfL & LUL standards.Experience of contributing to the electrical design on multidisciplinary projects and knowledge of rail design assurance processes.Good knowledge and understanding of the requirements necessary to develop and progress projects through the early stages of the lifecycle – LUL, GRIP and RIBA.Competent in the production or modification of CAD drawings using an industry standard CAD system.Experience of electrical design in the Rail environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skills.The applicant will have proven experience in the design of Railway infra projects with significant experience in a similar role or demonstration of a good track record.The senior applicants should ideally have obtained British Chartered Engineer status or equivalent, possess a degree in Building Services Engineering and possess membership to an accredited engineering bodyThis includes undertaking feasibility studies and developing concepts through to detailed design, specification and tender to the required standards.Good presentation skills are also requiredMust be fully conversant with technical software, such as IES, HAP, Hevacomp and manufacturer’s software.A sound understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project is essentialMust be fluent in English with an excellent understanding of technical terminology.Raise the level of technical competence within the teams.Implement delivery and quality measurement processesPromote technical excellence in all our projects.Undertake technical reviews, peer reviews, checks and contribute to the designProvide continuous feedback to the Local Head of CRC on the effectiveness of the protocols and processes in place with a view to continuous improvementDevelop positive professional relationship with the WSP UK Team, communicating openly about project progressSupervise, coordinate and support other project Engineers and CAD TechniciansEnsure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policiesEnsure statutory and regulatory requirements are met within the designParticipate in Project meetings, team meetings, disseminate information within the team, and communicate with other teams in WSP I Parsons BrinckerhoffIdentify and act on, or refer, potential risk issues and follow in full the company commercial and contracting processesManage delegated tasks to ensure that deadlines are met and flag resourcing concerns to team leaderIdentify and flag additional fees to the Local CRC Head of MEPComplete timesheet accurately ahead of weekly deadlines.
