What you'll do We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our Developer Productivity and Experiences team. In this role, you will oversee a team of software engineers responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of our core developer experiences with a focus on productivity. This team paves the path for all developers to build a world-class developer experience that maximizes productivity for all of engineering. You will work closely with engineering teams across the company to drive solutions that elevate the developer experience, identify and build solutions to resolve developer pain points, and shepherd code changes throughout the release cycle. This role is a leadership position in our Bangalore office and will be responsible for building and maintaining a high level of performance for all of our local engineering teams in the Cloud & Production Engineering organization. This position is a people manager role reporting to the Director, Software Engineering. Responsibility Define and execute the DevEx strategy by establishing goals, roadmaps, and success metrics (e.g., MTTR, merge-to-deploy time, build/test cycle time, change failure rate) Improve tooling for code review, branching, trunk-based workflows, automated quality gates, and security/compliance checks in the SDLC Build robust observability for the developer journey, including telemetry, dashboards, SLA/SLOs, and feedback loops, and publish transparent KPIs Drive safe change management and incident response for build/test/release systems; own reliability, capacity planning, and cost efficiency across this domain Establish engineering standards, documentation, and enablement programs (training, office hours, inner-source contributions) Provide clear expectations, coaching, and career growth pathways Attract, hire, and retain top talent and scale teams aligned to business priorities Foster an inclusive, high-accountability culture centered on impact, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement Act as the senior on-site leader for the org by representing the group locally, drive engagement, coordinate cross-functional work, and ensure operational excellence Bridge time zones effectively and ensure crisp handoffs and decision velocity with US counterparts Job Designation Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation) Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. What you bring Basic 15+ years of combined software development and management experience across at least 3 different languages 10+ years of hands-on software development as an individual contributor Demonstrated ownership of developer productivity/dev tooling, CI/CD, build/test infrastructure, or internal platforms at meaningful scale Proven record delivering measurable velocity and reliability improvements backed by data and clear KPIs/OKRs Strong systems thinking with hands-on familiarity in several of CI/CD platforms and pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins), artifact repos, release orchestration Source control workflows at scale (monorepo/multirepo, protected branches, code owners, policy enforcement) Test strategy/infra (parallelization, caching, flakiness reduction, hermetic builds) Observability for DevEx (logs/metrics/traces, dashboards, SLOs; e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) Cloud/container foundations (Kubernetes, containers, IaC such as Terraform), and environment management Experience leading India-based teams in a global organization with US reporting lines Bachelor’s in CS/EE or equivalent practical experience Preferred Excellent stakeholder management and communication across time zones and able to influence senior leaders and align diverse teams Expertise in C#, React, and Python Familiarity with secure SDLC, policy-as-code, and governance (secrets management, SBOM, supply-chain security) Cost/perf optimization for build/test fleets and ephemeral environments Hands-on depth in one or more stacks (e.g., .NET, Java, Node/Python) and modern build systems Life at Docusign Working here Docusign is committed to building trust and making the world more agreeable for our employees, customers and the communities in which we live and work.
