Zoid is a high-tech R&D startup devoted towards developing cutting-edge products in the Defence and Aerospace sector . Our major work is solving complex military problems with our expertise in AI, Software, Robotics and Electronics . In the past we have done multiple projects with tech giants such as Lockheed Martin, Adani Defence, and Alpha Design to deliver solutions to the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army. We are currently working on AI based software solutions, deployed on UAV and vehicle-based platforms for the Indian Navy . The products are mainly oriented towards solving the following problems.

  • AI based FOD detection for military air-stations 
  • Missile Decoys for ground and marine platforms

Job Description

We are looking for a driven Lead Mechanical Engineer with at least 3 years of experience to join our team. The perfect candidate will be enthusiastic and self-driven, with a strong interest in advanced technologies. In this role, they will lead the research, design, testing, and implementation of various mechanical and electromechanical systems.

These systems will be incorporated into a range of products designed for Defence and Aerospace applications. They will have the opportunity to visit various military bases and work alongside the armed forces to test and deploy their solutions. By receiving feedback from the end-user, they will not only improve the current product but also gather valuable insights over time, enabling them to refine and mature their offerings for future developments.

Roles and Responsibilities  

1. Lead the full lifecycle development of mechanical and electro-mechanical solutions: Research, Prototyping, Testing, Manufacturing, and Deployment.

2. Research & Innovation

  • Conduct theoretical research and literature review for prospective projects.
  • Read and learn about new concepts & technologies quickly and pass on that knowledge to others in your team.

3. Design & Prototyping

  • Create detailed 3D models, drawings, and design documentation using CAD software.
  • Selection of mechanical components from various OEMs by analysing technical datasheets.
  • Design waterproof enclosures for rugged electronic systems, while ensuring effective thermal management of electronics.

4. Manufacturing and Fabrication

  • Ensure that the design is practical and can be manufactured & assembled.
  • Convert 3D models into 2D engineering drawings which can be used by manufacturing partners.
  • Find suitable vendors for manufacturing and co-ordinate with them to manufacture the prototypes.

5. Field Testing

  • Outline industry-standard test procedures to assess performance of the systems.
  • Travel to operational environment / military bases to conduct hands on testing of the prototypes on the field.
  • Identify potential problems and troubleshoot issues to increase performance and reliability.

6. Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the project lifecycle, including design specifications, and test reports.
  • Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOM) for prototypes and production.

Qualifications  

1. Education : Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.

2. Experience : Proven experience of at least 3 years or more as a mechanical engineer preferably in a research oriented tech environment.

3. Communication : Good verbal and written communication skills. 

4. Field Experience

  • Experience in outlining test procedures, conducting hands-on testing, and troubleshooting issues in operational environments.
  • Willingness to travel to various military bases / offshore locations in India. 
  • Ability to work in various outdoor environments for extended periods during field testing of prototypes.

5. Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated experience of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and Stack-up tolerance (6 sigma).
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modelling, analysis & simulations.
  • Proficiency with power tools for tweaking and modifying prototypes.
  • Demonstrated experience of Surface treatment processes, including painting, powder coating, anodizing, and other finishing techniques.
  • Knowledge of mechanical sub-components like Glands, Heli-coil, thermal pads, vibration pads, motors, actuators, DOF, gear-systems, motion mechanism, and sensors.
  • Working knowledge of various raw-materials (Metals-Alloys, Plastics, Composites, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Prior experience on working on complex mechanical solutions in the Defence & Aerospace industry.
  • A strong network of local vendors and manufacturing service providers in the Delhi-NCR region
  • Knowledge of Industrial standards and Defence & Aerospace certifications.
  • Ability to conduct various software simulations like aerodynamics/wind flow analysis, structural, vibrational and stress analysis using suitable simulation software.
