Architect - Backend Systems

Responsibilities :
- Design the overall architecture and roadmap for Mercari's backend systems.
- Design and implement common middleware and core microservices.
- Work with the Platform and SRE team to provide a robust microservices platform.
- Work across multiple backend teams to help design, build, and evolve microservices.
- Help form a healthy organization structure, and define guidelines on service development, testing, deployment, and monitoring to the whole engineering organization.
- Help building and pushing forward the plans for FinOps initiatives, and the overall BE framework.
- BS degree in Computer Science, Graduate degree preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in a variety of hands-on software/technology roles, preferably in Consumer Internet Products and Solutions in the cloud.
- Hands-on engineer with cloud-native skills, being comfortable with one of the cloud stacks, preferably GCP.
- At least 6 years of architecting, driving, and implementing multiple features on a Microservices stack at a high scale, performance, and reliability of at least 4 nines.
- Deep understanding and proven experience in the various dimensions of building and delivering multi-tenanted cloud-native Microservices.
- Well-versed in the challenges of distributed systems, modern cloud-native architectures, and distributed data management in a cloud environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication in pursuit of driving the mission forward.
- Influencing skills in balancing short and long-term objectives including technical and business outcomes.
