Job Description

Job Summary: As a CSSD (Central Sterile Services Department) Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the sterilization and distribution of medical equipment and instruments to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in healthcare facilities. You will lead a team of technicians, manage daily operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise CSSD Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Central Sterile Services Department, including sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of CSSD technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure optimal performance and adherence to established protocols.
  • Sterilization Processes: Monitor and maintain sterilization equipment, ensuring proper functioning and adherence to manufacturer's guidelines. Oversee sterilization processes such as steam sterilization, chemical sterilization, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Quality Control: Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure the effectiveness of sterilization processes and compliance with regulatory standards. Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify the cleanliness and sterility of medical equipment.
  • Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels of sterile supplies and surgical instruments, including ordering, receiving, and restocking as needed. Implement efficient inventory management systems to minimize waste and ensure availability of essential items.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and institutional policies related to CSSD operations. Maintain accurate records and documentation of sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and inventory management activities.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments such as Operating Room, Infection Control, and Materials Management to coordinate sterilization activities, address issues, and optimize workflow efficiency.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of CSSD operations. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in sterilization techniques.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, or related field (preferred).
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification (required).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in CSSD operations, with 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control principles, and regulatory standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and familiarity with sterilization tracking software

Requirements
Sterilization Procedures: Perform decontamination, cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, washers, and ultrasonic cleaners. Ensure proper handling and storage of sterile items to maintain sterility. Instrument Management: Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness, functionality, and integrity. Assemble surgical instrument trays and sets according to established protocols. Track and document the usage and sterilization cycles of instruments. Quality Control: Monitor and document sterilization processes, including temperature, pressure, and cycle times. Conduct routine biological and chemical tests to ensure the effectiveness of sterilization. Report and address any equipment malfunctions or discrepancies immediately.
