There has never been a better time to join EQ.The L&P Support and Development department looks after two platforms: PAPPS/PARIS and LAMDA.The PAPPS/PARIS system is an in-house developed application that supports the administration and payment of annuities for over 1m annuitants, paying out over £500m per year. The system is built in Oracle, and has recently been upgraded to Oracle 12c Forms, running on an Oracle 19c database, hosted on a Linux server. PAPPS/PARIS provide a front end for both EQ staff and clients, enabling them to administer these annuitants, setting up new policies, authorising payments, and providing the necessary regulatory reports. The payment of the annuities is managed by Penserver, which is EQ’s flagship payroll product built using Microsoft SQL database. These systems, PAPPS/PARIS and Penserver, are very tightly coupled, and any enhancement may need to be made in both systems to meet the overall business requirement.There are a number of other systems built around these two applications that control overnight processing, and the movement of files between EQ and their clients. Although the department is not responsible for these other systems, we need to understand how they interact so that any reported problems can be fully investigated and the root cause identified.Role SummaryAs a developer you will be required to support the underlying platforms of LAMDA and PAPPS/PARIS. This will include:- live support - since the business cannot afford for the systems to be down for any extended period of time- implementation of new features (either regulatory or in response to requests from clients)- resolution of any reported product or data faults.Core Duties/Responsibilities· Support the day-to-day operation of the systems and assist in the resolution of any technical issues that cannot be solved by first or second line support· Work with all members of the team, and other departments within EQ, to help ensure that the system is available to defined SLAs– and assist in the investigation and resolution of any issues that cause the system to be unavailable· Contributing to initial development effort estimates for new work· Analysing and specifying any changes or fixes required to the core system (or its associated systems and interfaces)· Undertaking project development work in accordance with agreed specifications· Undertaking ad-hoc development work against any reported faults or desirable enhancements· Assisting in planning testing of any new work· Following the defined software development lifecycle and standards used by the team, which covers specification, source code control, software development, testing and releaseSkills, Knowledge & Experience· Previous experience in Oracle development – essential· Experience of other programming languages (eg SQL, C#, .NET, FoxPro)· Formal training in software development· Exposure to formal software development lifecycles· Experience in supporting a large multi-user application in an operational environment· Pensions & Insurance application experience – desirableGeneral Skills and Knowledge· Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills· Ability to develop working relationships with developers and users· Ability to calm and be supportive to users in a panic· Ability to prioritise short-term operational demands with longer-term development· Commercially aware· Approachable· Proactive· Willing to take the initiative· Willing to work longer hours when operational urgent needs arise· Self-motivated· Responsible· Able to see the “big picture”What We OfferSave For Your Future
