Job DescriptionJob description
Senior Agronomist
We're building the next generation of AI-powered agronomy for horticulture farmers. As Senior Agronomist, you will drive the science and strategy behind it—starting with grapes (mandatory expertise) and extending to other crops like bananas, pomo, mango, citrus and tomatoes.
You'll design and validate PoPs, integrate soil testing, IoT and GIS data into dynamic advisory, and co-build our AI Decision Support System. You'll also help shape our crop-input sales strategy—turning a 4,000-SKU catalogue into the right product, for the right farmer, at the right time.
This is a senior, hands-on role at the intersection of field agronomy, data, and commercial strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agronomy & PoP Development
Manage pruning operations for 10,000+ acres
Create and update PoPs for crops, tuned to Mahrashtra's agro-climatic conditions.
Diagnose in-field issues (pests, nutrition, water stress) and prescribe practical, residue-safe solutions.
Run field trials and demo plots to validate fertigation, canopy/IPM schedules, and post-harvest methods.
2. Data, GIS & IoT Integration
Use soil test results, IoT sensor data, and weather feeds for real-time, dynamic recommendations.
Apply GIS/remote sensing to track health and prioritise interventions.
Translate agronomy into algorithms and rules for the AI/ML team; build predictive early-warning systems.
3. Crop-Input Sales Strategy
Build a recommendation framework: crop stage × problem × micro-climate → precise SKU, dose, timing.
Design bundles/kits and seasonal catalogues; create substitution rules across chemistries and MoAs.
Run SKU analysis (ABC/seasonality) to rationalise and optimise farmer adoption.
Align with sourcing/ops for pricing, availability, and compliance; train support teams to convert advisory → orders.
4. Farmer & Ecosystem Engagement
Lead trainings, field days, and season-long clinics across the Nashik belt.
Partner with FPOs, KVKs, CBBOs, NGOs, and input firms to scale adoption.
Mentor junior agronomists and field officers to deliver consistent farmer engagement.
RequirementsRequirements
Master's/PhD in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related.
5+ years in horticulture/agronomy with deep, hands-on grape experience in Nashik (non-negotiable).
Strong working knowledge of horticulture crops
Proven track record in PoP design, trial execution, and farmer advisory.
Proficient in soil testing interpretation, fertigation schedules, and input recommendations.
Experience using GIS/remote sensing and developing algorithms/models from agri data.
Familiar with IoT sensors, weather stations, and digital DSS tools.
Commercial mindset with experience in input portfolios (fertilisers, CP, biostimulants, irrigation).
Fluent in Marathi & English; comfortable with extensive farmer-facing travel.
