Machining Engineer

DESCRIPTION GPP Database Link ( Assists with the plan, design, purchase, and implementation of machining processes and equipment in an industrial plant. Key Responsibilities: Assists in the determination of parts and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals such as setup reduction and changeovers according to product specification; works with engineering to identify problems with product and performance and recommends solutions or enhancements. Assists with the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs equipment engineering design evaluations and documents results; may recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures. Works to improve equipment availability and capability by utilizing continuous improvement tools and working cross functionally. Health and Safety Machine Guarding - Understands and implements Cummins policies, legal and other requirements by applying approved machine guarding standards on existing machines and/or through the design and procurement of new machines/equipment to reduce overall risk to as low as reasonably practicable. Machine Programming - Creates factory floor machine programs by designing and implementing solutions to improve usage of machine and overall operation. Material Removal Tooling and Processes - Selects the tools needed to complete a material removal process that meets the product requirements at the lowest total costs to provide products that meet the customer needs. Measurement Process Design - Applying knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles and knowledge of measurement technology (standards, techniques, equipment, etc) to design a measurement system that can consistently meet industry and customer requirements. Education, Licenses, Certifications: College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. Experience: Basic level of relevant work experience required. QUALIFICATIONS * Description for Candidates Key Responsibilities: Production Management Lead daily production execution to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets. Ensure optimal utilization of workforce and equipment across shifts. Coordinate with planning, maintenance, and quality to avoid production interruptions. Process & Equipment Oversight Manage performance of key equipment: Cam Milling, Grinding, Hobbing, Superfinishing, Induction Hardening, Washing, Laser Marking, Final Inspection, etc. Ensure adherence to preventive and breakdown maintenance plans for uptime and process stability. Automation & Technology Promote Industry tools to stabilize and enhance manufacturing performance. Quality & Compliance Own quality metrics and drive resolution for non-conformances. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and lead corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). Ensure adherence to HSE, regulatory, and internal audit requirements. People Leadership Lead and develop a team of operators, line engineers, and production supervisors. Conduct skill-gap analysis, training, and succession planning. Build a culture of discipline, teamwork, and ownership on the shopfloor. Continuous Improvement Deploy Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and SMED. Improve OEE, reduce rework/scrap, and optimize manpower and energy usage. Education, Licenses, Certifications: Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering or equivalent. Additional certifications in Lean, Six Sigma, or Manufacturing Excellence preferred. Experience: Minimum 10 years in manufacturing operations with at least 3 years in leadership roles. Proven experience in precision machining, automated manufacturing, and production planning. Hands-on exposure to camshaft or similar complex components is a strong advantage. * Qualifications for Internal Candidates Detailed Overview:- The Manager Camshaft Manufacturing Operations will be responsible for leading and managing end-to-end camshaft machining operations. The scope includes overseeing production lines equipped with automated/manual precision machining centers. The role demands strong expertise in quality, process, automation, people management, and continuous improvement in a high-mix, high-precision environment.
