A CGI supervisor plays a crucial role in the production of visual effects.Overall, a CGI supervisor plays a pivotal role in bringing creative visions to life through digital imagery. It requires a unique blend of artistic vision, technical expertise, leadership skills, and problem-solving abilities to deliver outstanding visual effects that enhance storytelling in film and media.

Responsibilities :

Project Planning and Coordination : As a CGI supervisor, you would collaborate closely with onsite creative producer, supervisor, and other key stakeholders to understand the creative vision and technical requirements of the project. This involves participating in pre-production meetings to plan the approach for achieving the desired visual effects.

Team Management : You would oversee a team of CGI artists and technicians, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and ensuring that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. Managing the team involves maintaining schedules, monitoring progress, and resolving any issues that may arise during production.

Technical Expertise : A CGI supervisor needs a deep understanding of overall 3D tools, have an eye for detail keeping an eye on emerging technologies in the field. You would be responsible for making technical decisions and providing solutions to complex challenges related to visual effects production.

Quality Control : Ensuring the quality of CGI work is a key responsibility. This involves reviewing work-in-progress and final renders to ensure they meet the creative and technical standards set for the project.

Problem Solving : CGI supervisors often encounter technical obstacles or creative challenges during production. Your role would involve troubleshooting problems efficiently, coming up with innovative solutions, and maintaining the overall progress of the project.

Communication Skills :. You would need to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, manage expectations, and keep everyone informed about progress and changes.

Budget Management/bid vs actuals:

Depending on the project, you may be responsible for managing the budget allocated for CGI production. This involves making cost-effective decisions while maintaining the quality and integrity of the visual effects.

Continual Learning : The field of CGI is constantly evolving with new software tools, techniques, and technologies. A CGI supervisor must stay updated with industry trends and advancements to ensure the production team remains competitive and efficient.Eye for the detail & understanding of the client is must.

3D Animation Software :Maya, Maxon Cinema 4D & Blender:

Widely used for 3D modeling, animation, and rendering.for its user-friendly interface and powerful motion graphics capabilities.software offering a comprehensive suite of 3D modeling, animation, and VFX tools.

Rendering Engines:V-Ray, Redshift:high-quality rendering engine used for complex CGI projects, often integrated with Maya and other software.for its photorealistic rendering capabilities and integration with multiple 3D applications.GPU-accelerated renderer suitable for handling large-scale CGI projects efficiently.

Compositing Software :Adobe After Effects/ Nuke : Used for compositing, motion graphics, and visual effects integration. Known for its node-based workflow and deep compositing capabilities. Industry-standard node-based compositing software for film and television visual effects.Simulation and Dynamics :Houdini/ RealFlow : Known for its procedural node-based workflow, used extensively for simulations (e.g., fluid dynamics, particle effects). : Specialized in fluid simulation and dynamics for realistic water, liquids, and particle effects.

Project Management and Collaboration :Shotgun/ ftrack : A production management platform for tracking tasks, versions, and reviews across the CGI pipeline.Another project management tool designed specifically for VFX and animation pipelines.

Digital Sculpting and Texturing :Pixologic ZBrush/ Substance Painter:

Used for digital sculpting and detailing high-resolution models. Ideal for texturing 3D models with realistic materials and textures.

Overall experience

– 10+yr in the industry of CGI for the advertising or Film. Preferable is advertising.

LOCATIONResource outside Chennai Should be working with the Chennai team for the first month and then every month 15 days compulsory to WFO. If it is a Chennai resources, then WFO only.

TIMINGSWe work on 9-hour shifts that change depending on the regions you are working with and at the discretion of your line manager
