Location: Mumbai, India

Reporting To: Head of Family Office

Experience: Over 15 years working with a reputed Family Office

Qualification: CA / CFA / MBA (Finance)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Chief Investment Officer (CIO) to lead the investment functions of our Family Office. The CIO will oversee the family's wealth strategy, asset allocation, and portfolio performance while ensuring all financial decisions align with the family's long-term goals. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring deep investment expertise and a strong cultural fit with the family's values.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Investment Strategy and Policy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive investment strategy aligned with the family's financial objectives, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance.
  • Establish clear investment policies and governance frameworks to ensure disciplined decision-making.
  • Organise and execute an asset allocation strategy across multiple asset classes, ensuring optimal diversification.
  • Keep abreast of global macroeconomic trends, regulatory changes, and investment innovations to refine investment strategies.
  • Align the family's investment philosophy with long-term generational wealth-building strategies.

2. Portfolio Management

  • Oversee and actively manage the family's investment portfolios across direct equity, alternative investments, private equity, fixed income, real estate, and structured products.
  • Select, assess, and monitor external fund managers, investment advisors, and alternative asset managers.
  • Conduct fundamental and technical analysis on key sectors, securities, and investment opportunities.
  • Continuously evaluate market conditions to make timely portfolio adjustments that enhance returns.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of potential high-quality investment opportunities that align with the family's financial goals.

3. Risk Management

  • Establish a robust risk management framework to identify, assess, and mitigate investment risks.
  • Monitor portfolio volatility, asset correlations, and systemic market risks to ensure appropriate risk-adjusted returns.
  • Implement and oversee hedging strategies and other defensive mechanisms to safeguard capital.
  • Ensure portfolio decisions remain within the scope of agreed risk-return parameters and regulatory compliance.

4. Performance Evaluation and Reporting

  • Conduct ongoing performance analysis to measure investment returns against benchmarks and objectives.
  • Track key financial metrics, evaluate fund manager performance, and ensure alignment with return expectations.
  • Prepare detailed investment performance reports, highlighting insights, risks, and opportunities.
  • Present periodic updates to the Head of the Family Office and key stakeholders, offering actionable insights.

5. Due Diligence

  • Perform in-depth due diligence on potential investment opportunities, fund managers, and new asset classes.
  • Assess legal, financial, operational, and reputational risks before making investment commitments.
  • Negotiate and structure deals to maximize returns while mitigating downside risks.

6. Tax and Estate Planning

  • Work closely with tax advisors, legal counsel, and estate planners to optimize tax efficiency.
  • Ensure investment decisions consider the implications of capital gains, inheritance tax, and wealth transfer strategies.
  • Implement appropriate trust structures, offshore/onshore investment vehicles, and family governance frameworks.

7. Communication and Collaboration

  • Clearly communicate the investment strategy, portfolio updates, and financial insights to the family and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including accounting, legal, and operations, to ensure seamless financial oversight.
  • Engage with external industry experts, economists, and investment forums to remain informed on best practices.
  • Foster a transparent and accountable investment decision-making culture within the family office.

8. Liquidity Management

  • Ensure the family office maintains appropriate liquidity levels to meet obligations, philanthropic commitments, and lifestyle needs.
  • Implement strategies to optimize cash management, short-term fixed income holdings, and contingency planning.
  • Identify tactical investment opportunities that leverage available liquidity during market dislocations.

9. Governance

  • Oversee the investment committee, ensuring adherence to governance best practices and ethical standards.
  • Maintain compliance with SEBI, RBI, FEMA, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Continuously review and refine the investment governance structure to enhance accountability and decision-making transparency.
