Objectives of this role

We are seeking a skilled Linux Engineer with 4-8 years of experience to join our IT infrastructure team. The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux-based systems, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security in a high-availability environment. This role requires a thorough understanding of Linux-based technologies and an ability to solve complex infrastructure challenges.

Responsibilities

Manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers (e.g., RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu) in both physical and virtual environments.

Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement solutions to ensure optimal system efficiency and uptime.

Ensure systems are compliant with security best practices, perform system hardening, and handle regular security patching and vulnerability management.

Develop and maintain scripts (using Bash, Python, or other languages) for task automation, system monitoring, and troubleshooting.

Diagnose and resolve complex system issues related to hardware, OS, and application configurations.

Configure and troubleshoot network services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, and firewalls, ensuring efficient network performance.

Manage and configure backup solutions, perform regular system backups, and test disaster recovery strategies.

Work with various storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and manage Linux file systems (LVM, EXT4, XFS).

Manage virtualized environments (VMware, KVM, or Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) with a focus on Linux workloads.

Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guidelines.

Collaborate with development teams to implement infrastructure as code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for efficient application deployment.

Preferred Skill Set

Linux Administration - RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian

Scripting and Automation - Shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)

Security Best Practices - Firewall configuration, SSH, SELinux, IPsec, and system hardening

Docker & Kubernetes

Networking - IP addressing, subnetting, routing, VPNs, and load balancing

Virtualization - VMware, KVM, AWS, Azure, GCP

Monitoring Tools – Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus

Qualifications

4-8 years of hands-on experience in managing Linux systems (e.g., RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian).

Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Python, etc.) and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).

Knowledge of security practices such as firewall configuration, SSH, SELinux, IPsec, and system hardening.

Strong understanding of networking concepts such as IP addressing, subnetting, routing, VPNs, and load balancing.

Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Experience with system monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or similar.

Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery solutions.

Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.

RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or similar certifications are preferred.

ITIL, CCNA, or other related certifications are beneficial.
