About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Backend Engineering Manager with deep expertise in Node.js and modern backend architecture to lead a high-performing team building scalable, resilient APIs and services that power DAZN’s next-gen sports streaming experience. You will drive technical excellence, coach engineers, collaborate cross-functionally with product, data, and platform teams, and ensure our systems deliver seamless fan experiences worldwide. Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers working primarily with Node.js , TypeScript , and AWS . Design, develop, and optimize high-volume, low-latency APIs and microservices supporting millions of DAZN users. Partner with Product, Architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver high-impact, scalable backend solutions. Establish and drive best practices in code quality, CI/CD, testing, and observability . Manage sprint planning, technical design reviews, and delivery timelines. Recruit, retain, and grow world-class backend talent. Foster a collaborative engineering culture rooted in continuous learning and ownership. Work closely with stakeholders across global teams (UK, Poland, Japan, and Italy). Requirements 10+ years of total experience with at least 3+ years in people management . Proven expertise in Node.js (Express, NestJS, or similar frameworks) and Java Solid knowledge of RESTful APIs , GraphQL , microservices , and event-driven architecture . Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB, S3, etc.) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) . Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines , monitoring , and logging tools . Hands on Code Reviews Experience with TypeScript , SQL/NoSQL databases , and message brokers (Kafka, SNS/SQS) . Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Exposure to streaming, media tech, or OTT systems is a plus. Nice to Have Experience working in distributed global teams. Understanding of security, caching, and performance optimization at scale.
