Job Description: Senior Merchant
As a Senior Merchant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the merchandising strategy for the company. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of market trends, consumer behavior, and product assortment. The Senior Merchant will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sales, optimize inventory levels, and enhance the overall customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Merchandising Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive merchandising strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify new opportunities and potential risks.
- Product Assortment:
- Curate a diverse and compelling product assortment that meets the needs and preferences of the target audience.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to negotiate favorable terms, secure exclusive products, and ensure high-quality merchandise.
- Inventory Management:
- Optimize inventory levels to maximize sales while minimizing overstock and out-of-stock situations.
- Implement effective forecasting and demand planning processes to ensure product availability and timely restocking.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, operations, and sales, to ensure alignment and seamless execution of merchandising initiatives.
- Work closely with the marketing team to develop promotional campaigns and strategies that drive product visibility and sales.
- Data Analysis:
- Utilize data analytics to assess product performance, customer behavior, and market trends.
- Make data-driven recommendations for assortment adjustments, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.
- Vendor Management:
- Cultivate strong relationships with vendors and negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
- Evaluate vendor performance and take corrective actions as needed to ensure compliance with quality standards and delivery timelines.
- Financial Management:
- Manage the merchandising budget effectively, ensuring that financial goals are met and profitability is maintained.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to improve overall financial performance.
- Leadership and Mentorship:
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior members of the merchandising team.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven experience in a senior merchandising role, with a track record of successfully driving sales and managing product assortments.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the retail industry and market trends.
- Proficiency in using merchandising software and data analysis tools.
