Weld and Forming Process Engineer

As a Weld and Forming Process Engineer in Ripon, WI, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and maintaining production methods for forming and weld equipment (laser, plasma, resistance welds will be the focus). You will collaborate with colleagues in other engineering functions as well as production, quality, purchasing, planning, and maintenance. You will work on projects that result in a safer work environment, higher quality product, more efficient process, and a positive impact on the company’s bottom line.
- Examine equipment, processes, operations, and procedures to identify improvement opportunities in areas of safety, quality, throughput, and cost.
- Implement changes and modify operation standards.
- Evaluate vendor proposals for new equipment purchases.
- Select and implement suitable manufacturing processes and apply modern organizational principles to make products at a competitive cost.
- Identify and optimize current and new manufacturing processes using continuous improvement.
- Work closely with production and maintenance to ensure equipment is operating in a like-new condition.
- Conduct Capability Studies and perform Time Studies.
- Develop process improvements and Visual Work Instructions.
- Provide production support and process troubleshooting.
- Reduce costs (scrap, rework, cycle time, etc.).
- Specify tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Coordinate projects and perform daily troubleshooting.
- Participate in Kaizen events.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Mechanical, Welding, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or combined related experience.
- 2-4 years of engineering project experience in metal manufacturing.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing techniques, capability studies, process mapping, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
- Ability to take a project lead role and work comfortably in a fast-moving continuous improvement culture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with aggressive deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to understand complex process interactions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Creo and AutoCAD is a strong plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Mechanical, Welding, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or combined related experience.
- 2-4 years of engineering project experience in metal manufacturing.
- Experience in Lean manufacturing techniques, capability studies, process mapping, FMEA, and root cause analysis.
- Experience with Creo and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, Journeyman Certification, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with welding and light fabrication.
- Experience with industrial communication networks (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet).
- Experience with Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control loops and combustion controls.
- Basic understanding of mechanical devices.
- Safety awareness training.
