About this role

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist on the Globalization team, you will build scalable search algorithms fueled by machine learning, natural language processing and data-driven processes. You will create technical roadmaps to lead the technical vision of the Globalization team. You will collaborate with other Data Scientists, Product Managers and engineers to improve Udemy’s search product. We have an exciting road map ahead of us and this is a unique opportunity to build robust and powerful search systems at scale.

What you'll be doing

You will develop innovative approaches to build data products, implement fast prototypes and production-grade data pipelines to power ML-based data products.You will build offline evaluation strategies and curate datasets to benchmark multi-lingual search use-cases.You will maintain and monitor complex data pipelines.You will form product hypotheses, implement metrics and design A/B experiments to quantitatively measure product success.You will stay at the cutting edge of advancements in data science, NLP, LLMs, machine learning, and prompt engineering.You will drive the technical strategy for the ML-powered data products.You will communicate project status to non-technical stakeholders.You will guide and inspire junior and senior data scientists and engineers, shaping the future of our department and fostering a culture of continuous innovation and learning.

What you’ll have

10+ years of full-time experience with machine learning, data science or equivalent.Strong knowledge of statistics, machine learning, and natural language processing and hands-on experience in a variety of fundamental methods like regression, classification, clustering using libraries like scikit-learn, LightGBM etc.A solid understanding of analytics, statistics, and probability. This includes familiarity with statistical tests, distributions, and data analysis techniques and effectively interpreting and communicating statistical information.Proficiency with SQL and 1+ programming languages (e.g. Python)We understand that not everyone will match each of the above qualifications. Nice to haves

Experience with information retrieval tools such as Elasticsearch or Solr.Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, HuggingFace).Experience with vector search libraries or databases.Experience building products using LLMs. Knowledge of prompting techniques, prompt-tuning, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).Experience with big data storage and processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Hive, and Spark.Experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is advantageous.
