Role Overview

As a z/OS Administrator, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization of IBM z/OS mainframe environments. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a hybrid model with cross-functional teams across multiple locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM z/OS operating systems and related subsystems.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning for mainframe environments.
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and software maintenance to ensure stability and compliance.
  • Provide support for disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with application, storage, and network teams to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures, and technical knowledge base.
  • Ensure compliance with IT security and audit requirements.
  • Mentor junior administrators and provide technical leadership within the team.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of proven experience in z/OS administration.
  • Strong expertise in IBM mainframe systems including z/OS, JES2/JES3, RACF, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools.
  • Knowledge of mainframe storage management, system automation, and disaster recovery tools.
  • Hands-on experience in system upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices (Incident, Change, Problem Management).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across global teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to mainframe modernization initiatives.
  • Experience with security tools and compliance frameworks.
  • Knowledge of cloud integration with mainframe systems is an added advantage.
