Job Summary:

The Assistant Manager - Packhouse Operations will oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of our packhouse facility. The role involves procurement of fruit directly from the field, liaising with field executives, ensuring the quality and safety standards of produce handling, and ensuring timely dispatch to retail and e-commerce customers. The candidate will play a pivotal role in optimizing operational efficiency and ensuring high standards in packhouse processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the end-to-end operations of the packhouse, including procurement, sorting, grading, packaging, and dispatch.
  • Coordinate procurement from farmers through field executives, ensuring timely and consistent supply of fruits to the packhouse.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control and safety standards during the processing and packaging of fruits.
  • Supervise a team of packhouse staff, ensuring they are trained and follow operational guidelines.
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the packhouse and ensure equipment is functional and serviced regularly.
  • Monitor inventory levels, packaging materials, and other resources to ensure seamless operations.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure timely dispatch of packed goods to various customers including modern retail, e-commerce platforms, and general trade.
  • Identify areas for process improvement to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Monitor performance metrics and prepare regular reports on packhouse operations for senior management.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in packhouse operations, agri-business, or fruit/food processing.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and handling procurement operations.
  • Knowledge of fresh produce handling, quality standards, and food safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with inventory management or ERP software is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with field executives, logistics teams, and senior management.


Preferred:

  • Experience working with fresh fruits or perishable goods.
  • Knowledge of post-harvest management and cold chain logistics.
