Your Job Role Summary …

As the Project Manager 2W R&D, you will lead the team by adopting adept project management practices to execute research, designing, planning, testing and development activities for new and existing products in the segment of 2-wheeler vehicles in alignment with the objectives of Piaggio & Company. It will entail enormous cross functional partnership with internal stakeholders, influencing and associating with external agencies to accomplish set goals in time.


Your key deliverables will be…

  • Preparing the engineering plan, directing, and controlling activities for design, development and release of new product launch following NPD guidelines within established program objectives.
  • Developing and leading competency of Vehicle / Architectural Packaging, Ergonomics / HMI, VLO analysis and Virtual Validation.
  • Steering efforts of the team to translate and convert customer needs to Engineering specifications.
  • Guiding team efforts to ensure all engineering designs are released in production post adherence to all compliances, DVP, assembly stack up tolerance limits and manufacturing feasibility requirements within set targets of time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Directing the preparation and issuance of initial release documentation to authorize tooling and procurement action for all assigned products.
  • Supervising activities to ensure successful completion of the program requirements for the designated system through proper guidance.
  • Distributing and adjusting team member’s assignment to optimize program objectives and schedules by provision of necessary resources, tools and training and ensure required tasks are executed effectively and efficiently.
  • Overseeing engineering deliverables related to the Product Delivery Process (PDP) and effectively communicating with project team to ensure attainment as per defined timelines.
  • Collaborating with cross functional teams such as Platform, Vehicle Validation, Quality and Manufacturing & Suppliers for timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Implementing global PLM / PDM and release management system between engineering centers in India and the EMEA region.
  • Reviewing and approving deviations during new product Industrialization.
  • Leading change management activities for all products, BOM Scrub, E-BOM release in Windchill / SAP, New product code release.
  • Initiating and monitoring legacy data conversion and updating all tree structure for 100% electronic release of drawings to all stake holders.
  • Developing methodology to release 2D / 3D data of Proprietary parts in PLM / ProE.
  • Managing and tracking the departmental resources and budget to ensure adherence and minimal deviation.
  • Leading team in developing DMU’s for new product development and collaborating with Vehicle prototype team for Mule / Prototype vehicle build for engineering assessment.
  • Identifying the need of Tools / Software and manpower to support the New product roadmap.
  • Preparing plans for Engineering competency enhancement, rallying efforts and directing the team to implement set milestones year on year.
  • Supporting and identifying the VAVE ideas for product and cost improvement.
  • Providing regular feedback regarding accomplishments and areas for improvement to team members, conducting continuous improvement reviews and coaching employees on their career development and training.


Essential Qualification: BE / BTech (Mechanical / Automobile)

Work Experience: 10 to 12 years of experience in the automobile industry.

Desired Qualification:

  • MBA (Operations).
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality, environmental, occupational health and safety regulations and BS OHSAS 18001.
  • Strong hold in manufacturing, research and product designing / Architectural Packaging, Ergonomics / HMI, VLO analysis and Virtual Validation.
  • Automotive industry experience in Product Design & Development specifically in Design and Change management, Vehicle Integration, CAE, PLM, and Vehicle Industrialization.


Preferred Technical Skills and Certification:

  • Should be highly proficient in the DVP’s of all vehicle systems viz. BIW, Interior, Chassis, Engine systems, Electrical engineering.
  • Should possess in depth knowledge and understanding of Engineering materials and manufacturing process.
  • Should have good understanding of DFMA, DFS & DFMEA.
  • Must possess experience of Virtual analysis of dynamic/static clearances, mechanisms & Access.
  • Should have good exposure of Library development in ProE for Fastener / Materials & necessary documentations.
