About the role

The Director will have two broad objectives:

  • Evaluations to inform internal and external strategies: Here, the director will steer an external evaluator, who will be a long-term strategic partner, to design and execute impact and process evaluations. The goal here is two-fold: 1) strengthen our programs and strategy, and 2) generate evidence to promote scaling by government, industry, and civil society
  • Driving the learning agenda for the initiative: Work with the operations team at the organisation to drive continuous improvements in program implementation

Key responsibilities

  • Set the strategic vision for organisation’s evaluation/learning agenda in collaboration with the CEO
  • Work across organisation’s implementation teams to identify and prioritize evaluation and learning needs, and support organisation’s programmatic/thematic teams make evidence-informed decisions
  • Steer external evaluation partner(s) to develop, refine, and execute the measurement, learning, and evaluation agenda, ensuring quality assurance and prudent management
  • Build and manage a team capable of delivering on these objectives
  • Develop annual and multi-year MEL plans in alignment with thematic goals, ensuring judicious management of the MEL budget
  • Actively seek out trustworthy partners and advisors as new MEL needs emerge
  • Build relationships with external partners across government, industry, and donors for evidence dissemination and uptake, and establish organisation’s thought leadership

Ideal qualification and work experience

  • 10+ years of professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience in monitoring, learning, and evaluation, with at least 2 years leading the MEL function at a nonprofit/research/consulting organization
  • Strong experience of setting up measurement/evaluation systems for complex adaptive programs
  • Conceptualized and managed/conducted experimental, quasi-experimental and non-experimental evaluation designs, using mixed method approaches
  • Strong facilitation skills for internal and external collaboration
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills in English. Conversational ability in Hindi.
  • Experience working with socially excluded communities
