Job Title: Sr. Software Engineer


Location: Bengaluru (Hybrid)


About the role:


As a Senior Software Engineer at Lumen, you will play a pivotal role in leading the rollout of a new enterprise-scale deployment of Zabbix, integrating alerting into our advanced event automation and AI/ML event management system. Your expertise in Zabbix and experience with enterprise monitoring platforms will be essential in driving the direction of our monitoring systems, supporting automation, and contributing to AI-driven event management capabilities. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams, deliver innovative solutions, and directly contribute to enhancing the business value we deliver to our customers.


Responsibilities (including but not limited to):


  • Lead the deployment of enterprise-scale Zabbix instances (versions 6.0/7.0) while implementing best practices in Zabbix configuration, HA/DR, and customer migrations from other monitoring platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to utilize historical event data for identifying candidates for event automation and self-healing.
  • Design and implement event correlation strategies, leveraging data from Netcool Operations Insight (NOI) to enhance support team efficiency.
  • Contribute to strategic IT initiatives, including the development of IT roadmaps, technology strategies, and enterprise data management.
  • Administer and maintain monitoring applications, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with business needs.
  • Work closely with internal compliance teams to ensure all monitoring applications meet required standards and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for monitoring tools, and collaborate with frontline engineers to address common platform issues.
  • Provide third-level, off-hours support for monitoring and event management tools as needed.
  • Participate in the overall support and continuous improvement of monitoring and event management systems.
  • Foster collaboration and communication within global operations teams to enhance operational efficiency.


Minimum qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent education and experience).
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering or monitoring platform management.
  • 4+ years of experience with Zabbix deployments (Zabbix 6.0/7.0).
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise monitoring technologies such as SNMP, ICMP, syslog, and MIBs.
  • Proficiency in Unix and Windows scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell).
  • Experience with Linux administration and troubleshooting server environments.
  • Solid understanding of web services (SOAP, REST API) and JSON data formats.
  • Strong experience working with databases (SQL, preferably PostgreSQL).
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies for diverse applications and environments.


Desired skills:


  • 3+ years of experience managing enterprise-scale Zabbix deployments.
  • 5+ years of experience working with enterprise monitoring applications for network devices and servers.
  • 5+ years of systems administration experience (Linux/Windows).
  • Familiarity with IBM Netcool/NOI, including Scope-based rules, and Related and Seasonal events.
  • Experience working with data center operations teams and managing business-critical applications.
  • Experience in supporting large enterprise networks and working with third-party vendors for application support (Zabbix, Netcool, Sevone).
  • Experience with event automation and AIOps strategies is a plus.
