Principal Associate - Bangalore (7-9 PQE)

Key Building

- Lead and grow the Labour & Employment vertical in Bangalore with the full backing of the national L&E team.

- Act as the go-to counsel for clients in South India, supporting them on advisory, compliance, and employment litigation issues.

- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team over time, the firm will support team growth based on your traction and pipeline.

Client Ownership & Strategy

- Manage end-to-end client relationships, from onboarding to delivery, across sectors like IT/ITES, manufacturing, pharma, banking, and retail.

Offer strategic advice on:

a. Workforce structuring & rightsizing

b. Executive exits & restrictive covenants

c. Cross-border employment issues

d. Industrial relations and union negotiations

- Handle sensitive, high-risk matters including terminations, internal investigations, misconduct proceedings, and whistleblower issues.

Technical Leadership

- Provide expert input on the new Labour Codes, compliance frameworks, wage structuring, leave policies, and social security regulations.

- Lead mandates involving POSH compliance, employment-related due diligence in M&A, and post-merger benefit harmonization.

- Draft and review complex employment documents such as non-compete clauses, compensation structures, ESOP frameworks, and policy manuals.

Business Development

- Leverage your network or industry relationships to bring in mandates, the firm encourages even modest books of 1-2 clients to begin with.

- Represent the firm at industry panels, HR/legal roundtables, or client trainings to build visibility in the Bangalore market.

- Collaborate with partners and BD teams to identify emerging sectors and growth areas in employment law across the southern region.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

- 7-9 years of solid post-qualification experience in employment law, ideally at a Tier 1 law firm or top-ranked boutique.

- Confident in handling complex advisory and client mandates independently.

- Has demonstrated client management and leadership potential, even if not formally managing a team yet.

- Brings (or is actively cultivating) a small client base or referral network (even 1-2 active mandates is a strong plus)

- Based in or willing to relocate to Bangalore, and excited about being a builder, not just a joiner.
