Nuevosol Energy is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join Nuevosol Energy team as a BESS Engineer. Key skills required for this role include BS Degree in Engineering or related, 1+ year of utility scale BESS experience and passionate about renewables. The ideal candidate will have Knowledge and experience of the various applicable engineering disciplines including electrical, civil, and structural for BESS projects (Solar experience a plus)


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the design of conceptual and detailed standalone BESS and PV + BESS projects.
  • Help manage 3rd party engineering consulting firms and EPC firms to develop conceptual and detailed designs to ensure the project’s design is aligned with company scope and standards.
  • Assist with developing technical specifications for the procurement, RFI/RFP/RFQ process of BESS and evaluate and recommend BESS OEMs, costs, systems architecture, operational capabilities, and warranties. Understand battery technologies and industry practices to provide guidance on the application of BESS technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations while optimizing project design with respect to efficiency and performance.
  • Facilitate and coordinate external engineering consultants and technical studies:
  1. Electrical Site layouts BESS facilities and PV + BESS. o Single/ Three-line electrical diagrams
  2. SCADA design o Electrical studies i.e., AC short circuit, cable sizing/ampacity study, loadflow/power factor study, arc flash, and protection coordination studies.
  3. Civil design including site layout, civil specifications, access roads, grading/drainage
  4. Geotechnical studies o Hydrology studies
  5. BESS Overbuild and augmentation analysis
  • Lead design review meetings and provide QA/QC for engineering drawing packages from Engineering consultants / EPC firms during project development and/or project execution phases ensuring all stakeholder’s mark-ups are captured.
  • Draft/review equipment specifications (DC-AC inverters, DC-DC Inverters, Batteries) and engineering documents using templates and defined processes, identifying, and driving process improvements as appropriate.
  • Review/determine BESS use case and dispatch scenarios using simulation tools
  • Day-to-day coordination with the project team on engineering status, revisions, RFI’s among others.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert for BESS and the primary technical point of contact for BESS engineering-related items.
  • Support document creation for EPC requests for BESS and PV + BESS projects pricing.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of standard details and specifications for future standalone BEES and PV + BESS projects.
  • Support the Director of Development Engineering during project financing and technical interactions with the Independent Engineer
  • Support the Director of Engineering and the EPC team in other capacities as needed.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not mandatory.
  • 2-8+ years of relevant engineering experience with preference given to those with a strong understanding of utility-scale BESS and PV + BESS projects.
  • Experience in BESS installation on services & commissioning is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code, NFPA, and UL standards.
  • Preference is given to individuals with experience in BESS projects in CAISO market
