Job Summary
The Dean of Research and Development is a pivotal role responsible for spearheading the university's research agenda, fostering innovation, and securing external funding. This position requires a visionary leader with a proven track record in research management, academic administration, and strategic planning. The Dean will oversee all aspects of research, from conceptualization to commercialization, and will work closely with faculty, students, industry, and government to drive research excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy aligned with the university's overall goals and vision.
- Research Infrastructure Development: Build and maintain state-of-the-art research facilities, laboratories, and equipment.
- Faculty Development: Mentor and support faculty in research proposal development, grant writing, and publication.
- Industry Collaborations: Foster strong relationships with industry partners to identify research opportunities and facilitate technology transfer.
- Funding Acquisition: Identify and pursue research funding opportunities from government, industry, and philanthropic sources.
- Research Culture: Create a vibrant research culture that encourages innovation, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Intellectual Property Management: Protect the university's intellectual property and commercialize research findings.
- Student Research: Promote student involvement in research projects and provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate research.
- Research Ethics: Ensure adherence to ethical guidelines and research integrity.
- Reporting and Evaluation: Prepare regular reports on research activities, performance metrics, and funding status.
Qualifications and Experience
- Ph.D (Management/ Engineering/ Sciences)with an outstanding research record.
- Proven experience in academic administration, preferably at a dean or associate dean level.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in securing research grants and funding.
- Knowledge of intellectual property management and technology transfer processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
