Role Overview:

As the Enzyme Engineering / Computational Biologist, you will use computational tools to design, model, and optimize enzymes for high-efficiency H₂O₂ production. This role is pivotal in supporting our lab-based enzyme engineering efforts through in-silico predictions and optimizations, accelerating the development and scale-up of our enzymatic synthesis platform.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-silico enzyme engineering to predict modifications that enhance enzyme activity, stability, and efficiency for H₂O₂ production.
  • Use molecular modelling, docking, and dynamics simulations to assess enzyme-substrate interactions and guide lab-based enzyme engineering.
  • Collaborate with the Biochemist and Process Engineer to provide computational insights that align with experimental goals.
  • Analyze sequence-structure relationships to design targeted mutations and predict their functional impact.
  • Develop and implement algorithms and computational workflows to accelerate enzyme optimization.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of modelling methods, enzyme designs, and predicted outcomes.
  • Stay current with advancements in computational biology, enzyme engineering, and protein modelling tools to apply state-of-the-art techniques.


Software Skills:

  • Proficiency with computational biology and enzyme modelling tools, such as Rosetta, PyMOL, AlphaFold, or Schrödinger Suite.
  • Experience with molecular dynamics simulation tools (e.g., GROMACS, AMBER) for enzyme stability and interaction studies.
  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python or R for data analysis and workflow automation.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis and mutation prediction is a plus.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, or a related field with a focus on enzyme engineering or protein modelling.
  • Strong expertise in enzyme design, molecular modelling, and structure-function relationship analysis.
  • Proven ability to interpret and predict the effects of mutations on enzyme stability and function.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a focus on applying computational techniques to industrial biochemistry challenges.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills, with attention to detail in workflow management.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in cell-free enzymatic systems or biocatalysis.
  • Knowledge of sustainable or green chemistry applications.
  • Previous experience working in a cross-functional team environment is a plus.
