Our Mining Group

Our global team of over 5,200 dedicated mining professionals are supporting the industry to decarbonise mining operations in the accelerating green transition. Working collaboratively across borders and disciplines, you’ll join a leading team working on interesting and complex projects. We are experts in our field, and we are passionate about mining.

What you’ll do:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering mechanical engineering expertise across tailings process infrastructure; particularly slurry systems, piping, and associated plant. You will partner with multidisciplinary teams and clients to solve complex challenges and deliver practical, innovative, and cost-effective solutions that support safe and sustainable mining operations.

This is a leadership opportunity where you will not only apply your technical depth but also provide mentoring to our emerging engineers, influence project direction, and contribute to strategic growth in our tailings capability, based in our Perth, WA office.

  • Lead the design, review, and optimisation of slurry systems, tailings pipelines, pumping systems, and related mechanical infrastructure.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on slurry transport and tailings processes within project teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their operational challenges and provide tailored, value-driven solutions.
  • Support business development through technical input, proposals, and client engagement.
  • Contribute to WSP’s thought leadership and innovation in sustainable tailings management.

About You:

  • Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (Chartered status highly regarded).
  • Extensive experience in slurry and tailings systems design within mining projects.
  • Strong background in pumping, piping, and process plant layouts for slurry transport.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and deliver complex sustaining capital projects.
  • A collaborative mindset with excellent client engagement skills.
  • A passion for mentoring, developing others, and contributing to industry best practice.
