VMware NSX – Job Description

  • Hands-on experience with VMware NSX, ESX Server, and other VMware products
  • Sound knowledge and hands-on experience with VMware NSX-V and NSX-T
  • Experience implementing and troubleshooting Distributed Firewall (DFW) and load balancers
  • Complete understanding of NSX-V and NSX-T architecture, components, and host preparation steps
  • Strong knowledge of VXLAN and GENEVE overlay tunnel protocols
  • Proficient in TEP, ARP, MAC Table, and handling BUM traffic
  • Deep understanding of Logical Switching concepts and VNI
  • Expertise in Distributed Logical Routing, Bridging, and Edge Service Gateway
  • Architectural understanding of Load Balancing (L4 and L7), IPSEC, and L2 VPN Services, including configuration steps
  • Ability to perform packet walk for logical switching, routing, and bridging
  • Skilled in troubleshooting basic to complex NSX-related issues
  • Basic knowledge of NSX Intelligence, Alarms and Events, and NSX Federation
  • Familiarity with Stretched Segments, Stretched Tier-0 and Tier-1 routing
  • Strong knowledge of SNAT and DNAT
  • Understanding of load balancer topologies – inline and one-armed
  • Sound knowledge of Distributed Firewall and Gateway Firewall architecture, including firewall policies, rules, groups, services, and profile context
  • Experience with VMware tools such as vRealize Operations (VROps), vRealize Log Insight (VRLI), and vRealize Network Insight (VRNI)
  • Troubleshooting and implementation experience in core routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MP-BGP, MPLS
  • Hands-on experience in switching technologies: STP, vPC, VSS, VDC, OTV, TRILL, FabricPath
  • Understanding of Cisco Nexus switches (2k, 5k, 7k, 9k)
  • Strong grasp of L2/L3 networking protocols, including switching, routing fundamentals, IP subnetting, address management, firewalling, and load balancers
  • Experience with network components such as ASR routers, switches, firewalls, ASA, etc.
  • Familiarity with virtual networking components: VSG, Nexus1000V, BGP, OSPF, Cisco UCS, and storage
  • Hands-on experience with CLI toolsets and general system/network troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark)
  • Proficient in Linux/UNIX utilities, including editors and command shells
  • Secures network by developing access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation
