Job Overview:

The Database Administration Team Lead will oversee and manage a team of database administrators (DBAs), ensuring the optimization, maintenance, and security of the organization’s databases. This role involves strategic planning, troubleshooting, and the implementation of best practices for database performance, scalability, and reliability. The individual will also work closely with other IT teams to support system integration and development efforts. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in database management, and excellent communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Leadership & Team Management:


  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of database administrators.
  • Allocate tasks and prioritize projects to ensure timely delivery and high-quality results.
  • Provide guidance and training to DBAs to enhance their technical skills and career development.
  • Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.


  • Database Design & Optimization:


  • Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of database architectures and structures.
  • Ensure databases are tuned for performance, scalability, and high availability.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend solutions for performance improvements.


  • Database Maintenance & Support:\


  • Monitor database health, ensuring all systems are running smoothly and efficiently.
  • Perform regular backups, patching, and updates to database systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues in a timely manner.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.


  • Database Security:


  • Establish and enforce database security policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Implement and monitor access controls, encryption, and auditing processes to protect sensitive data.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).


  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:


  • Work with software engineers, system architects, and other IT teams to plan and execute database-related projects.
  • Provide technical consultation and support to other departments regarding database-related matters.
  • Collaborate with business units to understand data requirements and provide solutions that align with organizational goals.


  • Continuous Improvement:


  • Research and implement new database technologies, tools, and best practices to improve the organization's database environment.
  • Lead efforts to upgrade and modernize database platforms when necessary.
  • Analyze existing systems for potential improvements, streamlining processes, and enhancing operational efficiency.


Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in database administration (preferably in leadership roles).
  • Strong knowledge of database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, etc.).
  • Proven experience with database design, tuning, backup strategies, and recovery procedures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex database issues.
  • Solid understanding of database security and compliance best practices.
  • Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning tools.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps environment is a plus.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Certification in database administration (e.g., Oracle DBA, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience in database automation and scripting (e.g., Shell scripting, Python, PowerShell).


Working Conditions:


  • Full-time position.
  • Occasional on-call support during weekends or off-hours as needed.
  • May require travel for specific projects or team events.
