Mainframe Consultant

Job Description :Key Responsibilities :- Engage with customers to understand requirements, pain points, and use cases, ensuring user-centric solutions.- Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, IMS, and JCL.- Create high-level software architecture designs, ensuring scalability, performance, and integration with enterprise systems.- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, architects, and designers to deliver solutions.- Define and implement testing strategies, ensuring software quality, reliability, and compliance.- Develop and maintain back-end components such as APIs, batch jobs, and transaction processing systems.- Optimize application performance and introduce new technologies/methodologies to improve efficiency.- Ensure robust security practices, including data encryption, anonymization, and compliance with regulatory standards.- Monitor and troubleshoot production issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.- Stay updated with emerging mainframe technologies and industry trends to recommend continuous improvements.Education & Qualifications :- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.- Advanced certifications in Mainframe Technologies (preferred).Experience :- 6+ years of IT experience, with 4+ years in mainframe development.- Practical expertise in two programming languages or advanced proficiency in at least one (COBOL, JCL, DB2, IMS).Technical Skills :Mandatory :- COBOL : Development and maintenance of batch and online applications.- JCL (Job Control Language) : Job scheduling, batch processing, and automation.- DB2- IMS DB / IMS DC : Transaction and database management.- VSAM : File handling and dataset management.- Strong understanding of mainframe operating environments and systems integration.Preferred :- Experience with test-driven development, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.- Familiarity with APIs, microservices, and modern integration techniques.- Exposure to application security practices in mainframe environments (ref:hirist.tech)
