Principal Software Architect We have an opportunity for a Principal Software Architect to join our NIOS Platform team in Bangalore. You’ll be a hands-on technical leader who designs and builds the application and dataplane services in C, Python, and Go that make NIOS fast, reliable, and secure. Your focus will be systems design, service boundaries, persistence, and performance. You’ll partner with architecture, engineering, product, and support teams to deliver features and performance at scale for thousands of global customers. Be a Contributor — What You’ll Do Design and develop high-performance application services in C, Python, and Go for NIOS with a focus on reliability and scalability Lead system and service architecture design, defining boundaries, data models, and scalability strategies Manage and optimize persistence layers (Berkeley DB, LMDB, RocksDB, PostgreSQL) ensuring data integrity and performance Profile and optimize application performance across threading, I/O, memory, and caching for low latency Implement high-performance networking strategies to enhance packet processing and reduce latency Enhance Developer Experience (DX) by improving CI/CD pipelines, build systems, testing frameworks, and dev tools Engineer safe, testable OS and appliance upgrades with rollback and migration strategies Own OS startup and reliability aspects including partitioning, filesystems, GRUB, and initialization sequencing Drive observability and management using metrics, logs, traces (OpenTelemetry), and SNMP integrations Collaborate and mentor teams through design reviews, technical guidance, and customer issue resolution Be Prepared — What You Bring Around 20 years of systems/application engineering experience with 8+ years hands-on in C and Python on Linux Strong in distributed systems design, including data modeling, partitioning, consistency, and performance optimization Proficient in Linux administration and tuning (systemd, networking, filesystems) with advanced troubleshooting tools (gdb, tcpdump, perf) Deep understanding of TCP/UDP protocols and scaling high-performance services Expertise in persistence technologies — Berkeley DB, LMDB, RocksDB, PostgreSQL — with focus on durability and recovery Familiar with SNMP, syslog, and OpenTelemetry for observability and system management Skilled in OS upgrades and startup components (partitioning, GRUB, initrd, device initialization) Hands-on experience in Python scripting, automation, and test tooling with strong shell and bash skills Excellent architectural documentation and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration (Nice to have) Knowledge of DDI domain, HA clustering, storage internals, security hardening, virtualization, and AI-driven observability Be Successful — Your Path First 90 days : Ramp on NIOS architecture and dev environment; organize direct POCs as well as conduct hands on POCs that help drive the roadmap Six months:Lead a subsystem roadmap item (e.g., DPDK basedacceleration or Accelerating Python web applications) through design, implementation, and rollout One year:Be the goto owner for a core platform area; set technical strategy for performance, upgrade safety, and reliability Belong—Your Community Our culture thrives on inclusion, rewarding the bold ideas, curiosity, and creativity that move us forward.
