Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (i2E) In partial fulfilment of its mission, and in line with the Founders’ spirit of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the university has established the Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I2E). I2E is a separate notified wing of the university with a Steering Committee consisting of industry stalwarts and global academics to act as its mentors. I2E is envisaged to be the nodal center of BMU for innovation and entrepreneurship. I2E supports intellectually all curriculum, innovation, and entrepreneurship activities at the university. It has currently launched cross-disciplinary courses besides supporting majors/ minors in entrepreneurship at the existing schools of the university. I2E plans to launch certifications and stand-alone programs in entrepreneurship and innovation in the coming academic years. I2E has the mandate to conduct cutting-edge sponsored research and provides consulting to the industry in the domain of entrepreneurship and innovation.


About the Role

The Assistant Professor Research would anchor a research project exploring academic-industry engagement, science commercialization, and the development of university-based entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Universities have become increasingly focused on commercializing their knowledge, engaging with industrial partners such as small-to-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and diversifying income streams. At the same time, resource-constrained SMEs have realized the opportunities afforded to them in mobilizing resources and scaling their ventures by engaging with universities.

It is these entrepreneurial/commercial activities at the university-industry (U-I) boundary that support the emergence and development of university-centred entrepreneurial ecosystems (UBEEs). However, whilst academics are encouraged to behave entrepreneurially, this poses several challenges due to existing academic norms. Likewise, despite industry partners having much to gain from engaging with university academics, they too face challenges in doing so. Unfortunately, despite a broad and emerging literature in the academic entrepreneurship field, our understanding of the processes, particularly at the micro-level, underlying U-I engagement, science commercialization, and UBEEs remains limited. Accordingly, this research project will investigate U-I engagement activities and science commercialization at the U-I boundary, and how these activities contribute to UBEE dynamics.

The successful applicant will work alongside with Chair Professor – of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Dr. Deepak Pandit and Research-focused faculties in the School of Engineering and Technology and other schools.

BMU with a mix of academic and industry faculty and highly experiential curriculum and several Proof of Concepts POCs and prototypes related to complexity systems, sustainable materials, and e-mobility space is ideally placed to assist the industry in developing technologies BMU's location at the center of the industrial corridor spanning Gurugram - Manesar - Bhiwadi - Bawal - Neemrana will allow it to play a pivotal role in this cluster accounting for 50 of the automobile industry in India.


The role of the postdoc would include

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate students to enhance practical applications of a particular field of study.
  • Focus considerably on building a resilient connection with the relevant industry, working on procuring industry-relevant research projects/assignments/internships, and expanding the industry-academia collaboration.
  • Bring in relevant consulting assignments/projects funded by various national and international agencies (Government and/or industry-sponsored).
  • Participate in scholarly activities, such as helping to develop innovative research questions, advising faculty on their research projects, or serving as a liaison between the University and industry or government.
  • Support the building of corporate relationships to engage speakers from local industry leaders, government and experts that facilitate learning and enhance the universities reputation


Qualifications

  • PhD in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, or a related discipline
  • Candidates who have submitted their thesis but have not done the final viva voice can be considered based on credentials

  • Gross emoluments will be fixed on consolidated basis. This will be decided after the interview.


DURATION AND NATURE OF ENGAGEMENT:

This is an appointment for two years, renewable based on performance evaluation every year. Upon successful completion of the research project the candidate may be considered for regular faculty role as per norms and procedures of the university post the completion of the two-year tenure
