Alpha Alternatives is a multi-asset class alternatives asset management platform based out of India and Singapore, with over 12000 Crores of assets under management, and deep focus on alpha generation. We are passionate about finding alternative investment opportunities that can deliver superior risk-return characteristics. We operate across various alternative spaces like Equities, Commodities, Absolute Returns, Structured Credit, Fixed Income, Quant, and Infrastructure. Our products span across various investment structures such as NBFC (ND-SI), AIF (Cat II & III), PMS, RIA, and Gift City.
Our team consists of 170+ people who are vastly experienced across domestic and global hedge funds and financial institutions and have strong academic credentials at top universities. We are strongly performance driven and look for people who share a similar DNA.
We are seeking a talented and experienced Lawyer In to join as our in-house Legal Counsel. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience in Corporate/Business law, Banking & Finance or Capital Markets space in a reputed law firm or a leading corporate in the financial services sector. Relevant work experience in an asset management firm will be an added advantage. This role offers an exciting opportunity to build and contribute to the legal function of a dynamic organization and support its exponential growth. We are seeking a candidate that can be groomed into Head of Legal position in years to come.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Build an independent central Legal function
i. Control function: Conduct thorough due diligence on contractual agreements for all investments made from AIF, NBFC or any other structure (particularly in the Credit and Infra space) to identify legal risks, liabilities, and compliance issues.
ii. Contract Review: Review and analyse wide range of contracts and legal agreements relevant to the financial services industry, including loan agreements, investment contracts, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and regulatory compliance documents both on the asset and the liability side.
iii. Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards governing financial services operations in India, including but not limited to banking regulations, securities laws, and consumer protection laws. Provide legal guidance and support to internal stakeholders on compliance matters.
iv. Regulatory Affairs: Stay informed about changes in legal and regulatory requirements and developments in the Indian financial services industry. Monitor regulatory updates and assess their impact on the company's operations. Assist in developing policies and procedures to maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
v. Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice and support to internal departments, including finance, operations, and compliance, on a wide range of legal issues impacting the company's business activities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address legal matters and achieve business objectives.
vi. Dispute Resolution: Assist in managing legal disputes, litigation, and regulatory investigations involving the company. Work closely with external legal counsel as needed to represent the company's interests and resolve legal matters effectively.
vii. Contract Management: Develop and maintain systems and processes for efficient contract management, including contract templates, database management, and tracking of contract lifecycle. Ensure accuracy and completeness of contract documentation and records.
viii. Training and Awareness: Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees on legal compliance, contractual obligations, and best practices in risk management. Promote legal awareness and adherence to ethical standards throughout the We expect you to have higher energy, higher intellectual capability, and a desire to handle bigger responsibilities than an average professional of your age/experience will generally do.
b. We expect you to take a lot of initiative to do on-the-job learning about different financial instruments & products.
c. We expect you to create a positive environment for your team and help your team members grow professionally as will be discussed individually with selected candidates.
