The role of a Pyro Metallurgy Expert at Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) exists to ensure the efficient and high-quality extraction, processing, and production of metals like zinc, lead, and other by-products. This position is crucial for optimizing oxidation & reduction-based pyro metallurgical processes, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations, all of which are key to HZL's success as a leading global metal producer.


The Pyro Metallurgy Expert will play a pivotal role in optimizing throughput and recovery rates and enhancing efficiency in our smelting, and refining operations. This individual will leverage his/her extensive experience in pyro metallurgy, and operational excellence to identify opportunities for improvement and implement innovative solutions.


The Pyro Metallurgy Expert will extensively work on improving the productivity of the furnaces by enhancing first pass recovery, identify debottlenecking opportunities to improve the metal output from the furnaces and also improve the overall recovery from the concentrate.


In summary, the Pyro Metallurgy Expert ensures the alignment of metallurgical operations with HZL’s broader business objectives of operational excellence, sustainability, and market leadership.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE


Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Chemical / Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline; or international equivalent. Advanced degree preferred.


Work Experience - Relevant experience in pyro metallurgy and sinter plant is mandatory, with a focus on non-ferrous metals like zinc, lead, and copper.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE



  1. Deep knowledge of oxidation and reduction-based Pyro metallurgy and understanding of working in sinter plant.
  2. Proven track record of improving recovery and current efficiency at large scale.
  3. Ability to conceptualize debottlenecking projects for enhancing volume and improving recovery.
  4. Strong technical expertise in metallurgical processes - smelting, and refining techniques.
  5. Demonstrated ability to evaluate, implement, and manage new technologies and innovations including digital transformations, AI implementation, and Operational Excellence programs.
  6. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and identify actionable insights.
  7. Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.



PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


  1. Diagnose throughput and recovery losses to identify and prioritize operational and capital initiatives.
  2. Lead technical initiatives aimed at improving throughput and recovery rates, optimizing processes across smelting operations.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance recovery efficiency.
  4. Evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and best practices to drive innovation and maximize recovery yields.
  5. Monitor and analyze operational data to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
  6. Lead and mentor technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  7. Collaborate with external partners, research institutions, and technology providers to explore opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
