The Role

As a Senior Body Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and validation of the structural and cosmetic plastic components and systems for our electric motorbikes. You will specifically work on and own body panels, battery compartment and seat systems. This role is critical in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of industrial design, ergonomics, durability, aXordability, and performance, especially in the challenging environments of emerging markets. Your work will directly influence the ergonomics, visual appeal and longevity of our vehicles, making them reliable and aspirational for customers in diverse regions.


What You Will Do

• Lead the plastics design, and optimization of key components such as body panels battery compartment and seat systems for electric motorbikes.

• Utilize advanced simulation tools (e.g., FEA) to conduct structural analysis and ensure designs meet stringent performance and safety standards.

• Innovate lightweight yet robust structural solutions that improve vehicle performance and eXiciency.

• Lead design of panel mounting strategies, panel gaps and sealing strategies to ensure cohesive industrial design and function.

• Oversee the prototyping and validation of components, ensuring that prototypes are built to specification and tested rigorously.

• Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless integration of plastic and stamped components into the overall vehicle design.

• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to optimize design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for service (DFS), and ensure scalability in production.

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, particularly those related to vehicle safety.

• Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, analysis results, and testing outcomes to support design validation and manufacturing.


What You Bring

• 8+ years of experience in plastic bodyworks engineering within the automotive, electric vehicle, or motorbike industries.

• Proven track record of leading the design and development of bodyworks and plastic functional components for high-quality vehicles.

• Experience in designing for tough road environments, with a focus on durability and longevity in challenging conditions.

• Experience designing for highly cost-sensitive products.

• Proficiency in CAD and CAE tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS) for design and manufacturability analysis such as draft angles, surface quality and mold flow.

• Strong materials experience in choosing appropriate materials for specific applications.

• Color, Trim and Graphics (CTG) experience as it relates to executing plastic components to meet the vision of the Industrial design team.

• Experience with water sealing and executing moving components such as doors, covers and hatches.

• Strong leadership skills with experience in guiding cross-functional teams.

• Excellent project management skills, with a history of delivering complex engineering projects on time and within budget.

• Ability to eXectively communicate technical concepts and collaborate across multiple teams, both internally and with external partners.

• Strong documentation skills, with an emphasis on maintaining clear and detailed records of design processes and decisions.

• A deep passion for electric vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions.

• A commitment to innovation and excellence in bodyworks engineering, with a focus on creating products that make a real-world impact.


Great to Haves:

• Experience with electric two-wheeler or motorbike design, including typical bodyworks such as seat, body panels, fenders, headlight cowling, dash and storage systems.

• A passion for finding innovative solutions that achieve function, reduce complexity, increase reliability and reduce cost.

• Knowledge of regulatory standards related homologation in various global markets.

• Experience vetting and selecting plastics partners for a given project to ensure quality parts delivered on time.

• Familiarity with the unique challenges of designing for emerging markets, including considerations for cost, durability, serviceability and user behavior.

• A passion for “getting your hands dirty” with experience working on and fixing motorcycles or other vehicles yourself.

• Passport and ability to travel outside of India.
