Position Overview:

Xenban is seeking a highly skilled Functional Safety Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the functional safety of our products in compliance with industry standards such as ISO 26262 and ASPICE. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to define safety requirements, conduct safety analyses, and develop comprehensive safety documentation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Development Interface Agreement (DIA) Maintenance: Define and maintain the DIA to establish clear communication and scope of work between stakeholders involved in the functional safety process.


  • Project Safety Plan Creation and Maintenance: Develop and maintain a Project Safety Management Plan that outlines how safety activities will be conducted, resources allocated, and responsibilities assigned throughout the project lifecycle.


  • Functional Safety Concept Preparation: Develop preliminary Functional Safety Concepts that outline safety goals and mechanisms to meet customer requirements, fostering the development of detailed Functional Safety Requirements.


  • Technical Safety Concept Preparation: Lead the development of Technical Safety Concepts (TSC) that allocate technical safety requirements to hardware and software elements, ensuring alignment with overall safety goals.


  • Safety Requirements Derivation: Derive specific safety requirements from higher-level functional safety requirements, ensuring they are clear, measurable, and traceable.


  • Safety Strategies Definition for Random Hardware Failure: Define strategies to mitigate risks associated with random hardware failures through appropriate safety mechanisms.


  • System Safe States Definition and Failure Analysis: Establish system safe states and conduct failure analysis to ensure the system can revert to a safe condition in case of failure.


  • Design Safety Analysis: Lead design safety analyses at the system level, including FMEAs (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), FMEDAs (Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis), FTAs (Fault Tree Analysis), DFAs (Design Failure Analysis), and FFIs (Functional Failure Investigations).


  • Quantitative FTA Performance: Perform quantitative analysis of fault trees to evaluate the reliability and safety performance of systems.


  • ISO 26262 Processes: Ensure adherence to ISO 26262 processes throughout the product development lifecycle, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and compliance verification.


  • Functional Safety Validation: Define and execute validation plans to ensure that all functional safety requirements are met through testing, analysis, and reviews.


  • Analyze Customer Functional Safety Requirements: Work closely with customers to analyze their functional safety requirements. Negotiate as needed while collaborating internally with systems engineers and design teams to ensure understanding and capability to meet these requirements.


  • Lead Internal Discussions of Functional Safety Concepts: Facilitate discussions regarding Functional Safety Concepts with internal teams and customers to refine requirements and expectations.


  • Foster a Culture of Functional Safety: Promote awareness and adherence to functional safety principles within the organization through training sessions and collaborative initiatives.


  • Support the Functional Safety Manager and Program Manager: Assist in developing comprehensive Safety Plans and Safety Cases that document compliance with functional safety standards.


  • System Safety Architectural Analysis: Conduct architectural analysis of system designs to ensure they meet defined safety requirements.


  • Hardware Software Interface Specification (HSIS): Define specifications for hardware-software interfaces that contribute to overall system safety.


  • Software Safety Lifecycle Activities: Oversee software safety lifecycle activities including specification of software safety requirements, architectural design, module design, work product creation, and conducting software-specific analyses (FMEA, DFA).


  • ASIL Decompositions: Perform ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) decompositions to determine appropriate levels of safety assurance for various components within the system architecture.


Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, or related field).
  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in functional safety engineering within the automotive sector.
  3. Strong understanding of ISO 26262 and ASPICE standards, including practical application.
  4. Proven experience in conducting FMEA, FTA, FMEDA, DFAs, FFIs, and other safety analysis methods.
  5. Familiarity with tools for functional safety such as ANSYS MEDINI or similar is a plus.
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  7. Effective communication skills in English (both written and spoken).


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. ISO 26262 Functional Safety Professional certification.
  2. Experience with electric vehicles (EV), hybrid electric vehicles (xHEV), or internal combustion engine (ICE) systems.
