The role offered involves significant contributions to the design, analysis, and optimization of turbomachinery systems for cutting-edge space launch vehicles, and the incumbent will be an integral part of the Research and Development (R&D) launch vehicle propulsion team.Responsibilities: As a Turbomachinery Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing of the turbomachinery components such as pumps, turbines, and compressors ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of rocket engines. Undertake the complete process of designing, constructing, and testing turbopumps for liquid-fuelled rocket engines and other rocket or spacecraft systems. Execute aerodynamic and mechanical design, as well as the qualification of both rotating and stationary turbomachinery components. Take ownership of every facet of turbomachinery design, demonstrating a proactive approach and working closely with manufacturing and assembly teams. Collaborate closely with engine leads to optimize turbomachinery, contributing to developing the best overall engine and analyzing experimental performance data to inform further enhancements. Ensure thorough mechanical and Finite Element Analysis is conducted on all turbopump components/systems. Collaborate with teams developing other systems (aerodynamics, structures, and propulsion, etc.) to optimize the integration of turbopump designs and effectively balance risks across the entire system. Participate in defining test configurations, overseeing the test process/execution, and reviewing results for confirmation. Contribute to ongoing design improvements for turbopump assemblies and subsystems and collaborate on manufacturing enhancements to reduce costs and lead times of components.Basic Qualification: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 1+ years of professional experience in the design of turbomachinery components or related turbomachinery experience, project/research-based student experience, or a combination of both. Hands-on experience with turbomachinery hardware build Proficiency in relevant engineering software and simulation tools. Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. Detail-oriented with a strong problem-solving mindset.Preferred Skills: Experience with software such as ANSYS (CFX, Mechanical, Thermal), Fine Turbo, STAR-CCM+, and ANSYS FEA tools. Strong understanding of aero-thermodynamics, compressible and incompressible flow, thermochemistry mechanics, and/or materials. Experience with turbomachinery testing and engine testing. Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW) for data analysis and model development. Ability to deliver against an aggressive schedule.Compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis with consideration of knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
